Thanks Rory @rory, Spiros @fiveten, and John @johnb. I don’t think the R1 needs much of an introduction, but if you need more info I’d recommend my friend Richard McStay’s article @richardmcstay48gmail.com, I think Richard has owned at least two R1s, and they are something of a favourite of his.
Anyway, let’s make a start. Construction begins with the engine, but, as usual, I started with the wheels and brake discs/rotors. Apart from drilling out all the cooling holes (that’s quite a lot of drilling), I gave the discs a coat of black followed by a top coat of Tamiya’s silver, I’m not adding any aftermarket parts on these builds. The wheels themselves are black on the red and white bike, and silver on the blue bike. A little sanding to get rid of the centre seam on the tyres, and job done. and the second one the completed front wheels.
