3 – Bandai 1/60 Mobile Police Alphonse Special

July 4, 2021 · in Sci-fi · 6 · 1.7K

This was the 3rd kit I've built and my first Gunpla kit, was fun, I put it together standard and thought the white and black was a bit boring, so I gave it a South African overhaul, I made it into a Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) theme. I started off with a clean paint job and then decided to go wild with the weathering (too wild I think) At the end it was really fun and hopefully I can get some more Gunpla kits soon (Very hard to find in South Africa)

  1. Weathering is a learning curve. I started off doing none then I went to too much and then a long while later, I figured out what should be enough for a model subject.

The thing I learned about weathering is that it is too easy to do too much because I find it fun.

If you can afford it or have the patience then it is best to order these from Japan (I don't know how costly shipping to South Africa is.) There are a number of sellers on various bid sites who will can obtain Bandai Gunpla kits and sell them for a little over Japan prices. It was how I got Bandai Star Wars kits before Bandai was allowed to sell them in North America.

    • Dan, you are 100% right - it's so much fun haha, let me add some more mud here and more rust here and before you know it you can't see the paint anymore hahaha.

Yeah I've recently ordered some stuff from Hobby Link Japan, the problem in South Africa is we can't rely on our postal service so we have to have it couriered and there comes in the main expense, so will try every now and again but normally you end up paying 2x the amount the kit is on sale for.

  2. Looks like you are enjoying yourself Anthony. The future previewed in a model ? It’s all in the imagination and these efforts give us great pleasure putting things together. Keep them coming !

    • Thanks Bernard, hopefully thats not a sign of the future, could be quite scary. Yes, these kind of kits are quite fun, because you can use a lot more imagination than with a military replica.
But I really enjoy it all.

  3. Looking great, Anthony!
Looks like you had a lot of fun building them indeed!
