The latest email from Squadron shows the Magic Factory F4U-1A/F4U-2 Corsair kit available for $69.99 - that's competitive price-wise with the Tamiya , with more detail offered. There was a point where @#$#@#@! Stevens International was going to gouge them for $140, but it looks like "the market" didn't respond.

  1. I got mine from Scalehobbyist last week for about the same price...they were backordered after I got mine but I see they're back in stock. Reasonable shipping too, especially if you get multiple items.

  2. Yeah that’s a good price Tom. My threshold for a WW2 fighter is somewhere just north of $50 these days. And at that price it needs to be something special. $140 for two Corsairs is a nonstarter.

  3. I got mine from Sprue Brothers at the same price as the ones from Squadron you just mentioned. They sold out fast though. It’s good to know that they are available from Brandon.

I still enjoy building the Tamiya kits even though they are over 20 years old now. They are fun and not too hard to assemble them.

I just went to the Sprue Brothers and the Squadron Mail Order website to see how much the 1/48 Tamiya Corsair is going for now.
Purchasing a pair of these are still quite a bit cheaper than the pair of the Magic Factory ones.

I have both of these kits in my stash and the engine is head and shoulders above what you get from the Tamiya Corsair. The cockpit looks great too but they are not that much better than what Tamiya has to offer, especially with the difference being the price tag of both.

I’m looking forward to building my Magic Factory models, but there’s still plenty of life left in the Tamiya kits.

Thank you for the heads up. At the price point from Stephens International there’s no way I would have pulled the trigger on these.

This is especially true when you can get a pair of the Tamiya kits for roughly $15 dollars cheaper than the pair of Magic Factory ones at the price they’re currently selling for at Squadron and Sprue Brothers.

  4. Thanks for sharing it, Tom!

  5. Sounds like a good price, thanks, Tom @tcinla
