Thanks for that Paul@yellow10 the MRP paints are lovely to use.

I am at the stage now where the fuselage is buttoned up and I am looking at fixing seams - I think I have left the Tamiya extra thin long enough to settle down now.

So a bit of sanding and rescribing to be done but not too much.

One aspect which has concerned me is a curious overhang on the trailing edge of the wing where the upper surface extends beyond the lower.

Studying photos suggested that this was correct although it was difficult to be sure.

I live close so a quick trip to Hendon was needed.

So it seems special hobby were right the flap fits into the upper wing and there is an overhang!

So I won't sand that bit away then!

    Seam filling!

Looking not too bad - the arrival of grandchildren to stay has slowed up progress, but I am hoping this additional time will help avoid any 'ghost seams' afterward!

Looking very good indeed, David! Interesting shots from Hendon - hats off to the kit designer! Jealous of your visit to Hendon - something I miss being down under!

Thanks Paul @yellow10 its nice to have Hendon quite close - if there is something you want me to have a look at and take a few snaps I'm happy to do so!

The exorcising of ghost seams and the resurrecting of rivets goes on...

A never-ending fight. One good solution is to run some C-A glue down the @#$##@! seam, let it spread and flatten naturally, filling the seam. Let it get hard over a couple hours, then sand smooth. It will kill ghost seams.

Many thanks Tom, I think that I am just about there now, but I think I will certainly use the CA method in the future.

Thanks for the offer of pictures from Hendon, David. If anything matches my builds in their inventory I may well make a request in the future!

    Riveting work looking very nice!

Visitors and family have reduced the time I have had at the bench lately.
However final seam filling and general fettling in readiness for paint has been going on!

The curious case of the missing trim tab !
Special Hobby moulded 3 out of 4 aileron trim tabs but gives you and ingenious little etch template so you can scribe one of your very own !

Since the time for paint is rapidly approaching, I have been giving some thought to the scheme.

RAF northern europe temperate scheme - not much thought needed there, but for which aircraft ?

I opted for Jim Sheddans SA-M, 486 squadron scheme - although not the one that comes with the kit.

In June 1944 while stationed at Newchurch Farm, Advanced Landing Field in Kent, Jim Sheddan shot down a V1 in a previous SA-M ( JN809 ). This qualifies it for full invasion stripes.

Some photos of 486 squadron Tempests at Newchurch Farm.

    David,
The Tempest looks fantastic with the primer painted ! It appears to be a smooth surface and should be an excellent canvas for your camouflage paint.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your next installment.

    Well done.

Many thanks Louis - I'm just grateful to get it to the stage where I could get some primer on to it !

I used Mr Surfacer 1500 (black!) thinned 50/50 with self leveling thinner. It looks quite smart in black - a jet black Tempest - there's a thought.

The primer sprayed very nicely ( usual laquer smell ) and I am just wondering about leaving the black, as is, for the black in the invasion stripes.

Just dealing with last bits of filling/ sanding including the fixing points for rocket projectiles ( not for this version), rescribed trim tab and a small bit of bench damage on the starboard trailing edge !

I will be using MRP laquer paints.

Leaving it black and doing the white of the invasion stripes over it is good, they won't be too "neat" (which they weren't). Also, overall black primer gives a more accurate weathered/faded look to the final paint, rather than the "Spanish School" cartoons with the panel lines done too strong.
