Does anyone know which version of the -3 model Wildcats were flown by the Marines at Midway? Did they fly the early version with the carb scoop at the 12 o'clock position, or did they use the later version with the inner cheek scoops at 8 & 4 o'clock positions?

The F4F-3s they got came from Pearl Harbor, where they were cast-offs from VF-6 before they and Enterprise went off to deliver Doolittle's Raiders in April. So they were most likely the later version. There are no photos of these airplanes.

TY for the response. I've come across one photo, but some claim it came from Ewa field and not Midway.
