Nice one fella. You know you don't always need masks.

You can paint on thin layers on the frames then gently remove excess with a chiselled cocktail stick.

It works well and mistakes are easily corrected. There is quite a good demo on You tube but for multi paned bombers I use it.

Really helps if the canopy is polished rather than dipped though.

    Great stuff, enjoy.

@chrisballard, thanks, Chris. Never tried it like that, especialy not in 1/72. The framing on your Lancaster looks really sharp, is this also 1/72?

Yes John. I tried masking it but it just wasn't happening. Masking fluid just tends to leave torn edges. Have a look at the attached video.

I am not sure how well it would work with dipping because you would have a substrate for the paint to bond to. If you sharpen the end of a cocktail stick (chisel or point) you can carefully run it along the edge and remove excess. You can also remove the odd seepage error on masked jobs. The canopy on this hotspur was a cheat (all straight lines masked) but where I went over the first lines the junctions leaked slightly. Easy to clean up (it is my first vac form canopy). Helps to use multi thin layers.

Thanks for sharing that video, Chris @chrisballard
Great skills which clearly require a steady hand.
Might give it a try on the Lancaster because masking is far from perfect.

You don't have to be too steady J as you can carefully remove the mistakes. A bit of tamiya plastic polish and microfiber cloth works well too. Another thing I thought of trying and need to experiment with is one of the old ink pens that we used on compasses for TD, with the 2 halves that adjust with a screw and hold the ink. It works depending on the paint characteristics.

Gave it try to paint the canopy frame by hand as mentioned by Chris @chrisballard
As you can see it needs some improvement but with acrylic paint this is quite doable.

Brilliant. They usually need a bit of a tidy. The key is thin layers it appears as they tend to cut cleanly rather than chip John.

Excellent result, only needing some improvement at areas, my friend @johnb! So, now you have an alternative to masking.

@chrisballard, thanks for the advice, Chris. You are indeed right. I noticed that the thicker painted parts did came loose in chips, so need to work on that aspect.
@fiveten, thank you, Spiros. Not an easy alternative I have to say.

Worked on the noise and tail turrets, the others were removed for the Dambusters, on started with painting the frames.

Started with a thin first layer of primer. Still a lot more to do.
