Looking at pictures from the tail gun placement, it looks quite busy on the original plane with canvas, tail lights etc.

The Revell kit however only has a flat surface where you have to place the barrels. I thought I could at least give it a try to make it ook a bit more realistic. Started by mounting a plate on the lower halve of the tail section using some bank card plastic.

Next I used some patafix witched should represent the canvas in the upper halve of the tail section.

In the end I used a small piece of EverGreen on which the barrels are mounted. On the original aircraft this looks likme an aluminum plate , therefore I painted it in this color. The tail lights are just two blops of paint, red and white, applied with the tip of a tooth stick. The leather ring is just presented by painting the outline with a leather color.

Wondering what you guys think of the outcome compared to the Revell ideas and to the original aircraft.

Looks much better than the kit supplied one, my friend @johnb!

I agree with the others, John (@johnb). Your additions certainly make the tail area much more realistic and it will certainly be noticeable when your plane is done.

John, this build gets better with each post. My only niggle is that I've got a Airfix B-17 calling my name now. No name calling . . . one build at time.

@gblair, thank you, George. Those should be one of the fina improvements before calling it done.

A few more steps done before crossing the finish line.

The ball turret is mounted and the rotating mechanism still works.

Barrels on the noise turret are mounted as well.

    Exhaust stains applied.

And this is how she looks currently from a safe distance.

I'm still searching for the antenna op top of the nose as seen on the original aircraft, I do know it is provided in the kit, but cannot find it between the remaining parts. Could be the carpet monster who claimed it.

@fiveten, thanks a lot, Spiros. Usually the carpet monster wins, will give it one more try to find it.

Unfortunately no luck in finding the missing piece and since I didn't want to spent an entire day I decided to createm one myself using a plastic card. Reference pictures can be found sufficiently on the net. This is how the antenna looked like after some grinding and painting.

Mounted on the nose it does look like this. Not the exact same shape, but similar.

Looks great, my friend @johnb! Maybe even better than the kit supplied! The only drawback being that you spent some extra time creating it!

@fiveten, thanks a lot, Spiros. Creating parts yourself is more fun than searching the entire carpet I have to admit.

Last activities for the year 2022 on Sally B. A layer of matt coat has been applied. Once the coat has fully dried, I will start with removing the masks.
