Great work on the interior, George @gblair
This seat is so much better than the original one.

Hi John (@j-healy), Spiros (@fiveten), and John (@johnb):

I still have some stuff to do on the interior, but I figure once the interior is done things will go faster. I still need to add some decals and other detail to the seat and cockpit, as well as finishing the instrument panel. I usually use a black panel wash on the interior and gear wells, but I think it will be too stark in this case. I plan to make a wash using some dark gray artist paint and see if it looks better. I just got back from helping my son-in-law insulate the walls and ceiling of a garage that he is refinishing as a workroom. Spiros, remember when we thought things would slow down when we retired? Exactly when is that supposed to happen? Seems I am busier now than before I retired. The big payoff today was spending some quality time with my 3 year old granddaughter. Always a good time. I should have some energy to work on the F-16 tomorrow. Cheers.

These late model Weasel Vipers are interesting planes. Here’s the small mouth Pratt powered Block 52 C model that I built from a Hasegawa kit. I have the original large mouth GE engined Kinetic Block 50 D kit to do the Minnesota plane with. It comes with both right and left handed AN/ASQ-213 HARM pods. It contains a huge amount of optional ordnance and pods, but is kind of a roughly molded kit. In fact, I took the SNIPER pod from it to use on the South Carolina Block 52 which I armed with Hasegawa GBUs.

Indeed, since I am retired (almost a year now), I have less and less free time, my friend @gblair! How can this happen is beyond my understanding 🙂.

Hi, John (@johnb), John (@j-healy), and Spiros (@fiveten):

F-16s are still sort of a mystery to me. I am a lot more familiar with the previous generation of planes: F-100, F-105, F-4, and so on. I was a 1st Lt stationed at Luke AFB in Phoenix when the first F-15s came on board. They were all painted in air superiority blue. Luke got the first planes because they were going to be the training base for F-15s. That is about as new as I want to get. Both planes that I flew (T-37 and C-141) are both retired now, so I don't know much about the newer planes.

I started assembling the fuselage today. I was a little worried because the upper half of the fuselage is split into 2 parts, and there are a lot of parts that need to be attached to the fuselage without a without a large seam. Most of these joins are along a panel line, so I hoped everything would fit together correctly. Tamiya planned and molded this kit flawlessly, and so far everything has fit perfectly without the need for filler. I found a 3d print file for a really detailed exhaust pipe, but it is for the Revell F-16. I printed one and will know soon if it fits like it is supposed to. I also tried to print the AN/ALQ-184 pod, but my printed didn't like it and promptly exploded the print. Will try that one again tomorrow. Cheers

    George,

You’re right about how much this kit is like the larger 1/48 version. It looks like it goes together just like mine is. I also like how you have used the light grey on the gear wells. Those printed parts look great too. The seat and especially the exhaust nozzle.

Incredible. This is going to be fantastic with all of the special parts you are making for the plane. I have got to get myself a printer... having a scan / cut tool would be nice too. You are demonstrating for us just how handy these things are.

I'm looking forward to your next post.

Excellent progress and ditto looks, my friend @gblair! The 3D afterburner duct and nozzle already look great.

    Really nice progress, George @gblair
This kit clearly has quite some nice details in this scale.
The printed engine parts do look very good.

Thanks, Louis (@lgardner), Spiros (@fiveten), and John (@johnb). 3D printers are sometimes frustrating because there is one specific print time per layer that will give maximum detail, but you don't know what it is. Usually the same print time that you used before will work, but I think this one will use something different. More experiments while I am building the plane. :o)

I got the fuselage glued together, and after the glue dried I added the wings. There are several panels that need to be attached at this point. I constantly marvel how well this kit is engineered and molded. All of the parts fit perfectly. Ihave learned that if a part doesn't fit I need to go back over my work, because if it doesn't fit it is my fault. If you are careful cleaning up the sprue attachment points on the parts, they will fit perfectly. Cheers.

    Really good progress, George @gblair
This kit is clearly engineered with much more details than the Hasegawa one.
It might be a good candidate which I can use for the decals you sent me.

Hi, Spiros (@fiveten) and John (@johnb). Yes, this is a very nice kit, probably one of the best engineered and molded I have seen. Everything fits precisely, and no flash at all. My one complaint is that the kit doesn't have the weapons and pods that an F-16CJ would carry. The Hasegawa F-16CJ has most of the weapons I need, so I will rob them from there.

Looking good, George. The shapes on the F-16 still look fresh 50 years on.
