Looking forward to the Lightning, Carl (@clipper). The recon planes are cool because you never see them modeled very much. I have a Spitfire PR waiting in the wings.

I got started today by applying the decals to my newly repainted vertical tail. Yesterday I stripped and repainted the tail with paint that was a lighter shade of gray. Hopefully the gray decals will be visible on this lighter color. Thanks to my previous experience with these decals, I knew that I needed to be very careful to keep them from folding over on themselves. I started with the large weasel that covered most of the tail. I carefully cut along the portion of the decal that would line up with the side of the tail so that I wouldn't have to deal with decal film hanging off the edge of the kit part. It went on perfectly. All of the rest of the decals are individual pieces, including the years and wording across the bottom. You have to be careful to get everything lined up, but they all went on perfectly. When everything was done, I used a little Solvaset to snug the decals down. I always let the decals dry for 24 hours before I do anything with the part, so tomorrow I hope to add the tail and finish the rest of the plane. After that, all that will be left will be to add the final layer of clear flat and attach all of the tanks, pods, and weapons. A lot of hurry up and wait, but getting close.

Hi John (@johnb) and Spiros (@fiveten). The decals on the tail are the best part of the whole model. I had to get them right. :o)

It has been a while since I have checked in on your build journal. As I expected, you are making some great progress. I am sorry I missed your birthday, and I'll send you a text about it.

As I was reading your adventures with the gray paint being the almost identical color of the decals, you had me worried. But you pulled it off, and it's looking great. Yes your kit is almost identical to mine, only smaller in size. These Tamiya F-16's are a nice building model. I hope to get some paint on my Thunderbirds jet soon.

Those printed weapons look outstanding as well. A PR Spitfire would be a nice change of pace too. My favorites are the ones that are painted in overall PRU Blue, but I have read that some were an odd shade of pink.

Keep it going my friend... you are almost there.

Thanks for stopping by, Louis (@lgardner). This model has taken more time than I thought it would. In the meantime, I got a 1/32 conversion kit for the early PR version, including cameras, fuel tank, camera hatch, and decals for a couple of early PRs. The decals do a "standard" version and one of the pink ones. I have always thought the pink version looked odd, but it is starting to grow on me. I want to do something for the Space/SciFi Group, and then I think PR may be in line. I have some more grandpa duties today, but I hope to spray the clear flat on the F-16 and do the final assembly tomorrow. Cheers.

This Viper is coming along nicely! Extravagant tail markings - look great! I'm trying my best to avoid being pulled down the 3D printing trail, but all that stuff you printed for this project looks really great!

Hi Greg (@gkittinger). Thanks for stopping by. I don't build many modern fighters, but the tail art sold me on the build. 1/72 has been tough, so back to 1/48 I will go. 3D printing is really fun. I started out with a printer that uses liquid resin. This allows printing of very fine detail. My wife got me a filament printer for Christmas, which doesn't allow quite as much detail but will print very large pieces. I am planning to print the hull to a radio control WW2 Flower Class ship. I am constantly amazed at the variety of 3D printer files you can find online for really detailed pieces that work in our models. And most of them are free. I suspect you would really like 3D printing. :o)

I was taking care of a sick granddaughter today, but I had time to spray the plane with some clear flat. All that is left is to add the tanks, pods, and missiles. Hopefully tomorrow. :o)

Sharp looking Viper, George! The last 10% of a plane always takes 50% of the build time.

Thanks, John (@j-healy) and Spiros (@fiveten). You are right! The last few bits of a kit always take the longest, especially this one with all the pods and weapons hanging off the wings. My granddaughter is fine today. They had a stomach flu running around here day care, but she is now eating again and excited for her Valentine's Day party at school.

Even though you had to take of your granddaughter, you made some nice progress, George @gblair
    Glad she recovered already.

Thanks, John (@johnb). She is already back in school today. She didn't want to miss her Valentine's Day party. It's a big deal when you are 3 years old.
