Just idle curiosity on my part Rick 🙂 . I know the kit canopy is one piece, and you have done a lot of work in the pit so it would be a shame not to be able to see it. Painting the frame work on the Stuka will be hard enough without cutting the quite thick clear plastic. Have you a Vacform replacement? cos that would be easier to work with in this case.

Gregor, I have a vac-u-form canopy from Squadron, and I have my own vac-u-form machine, so I can open up both canopies with out a great deal of extra work.
You aren't supposed to ask questions like that...lol. 😉

Cool! Then open it up I say! The old Airfix canopy is a bit rough, and thick anyway, they (Airfix) seem to always have had trouble with their transparent parts. BTW it would be great if we can see pictures of the work cutting the vac form, i've got a a couple vac canopies for models in the stash but never used them.

Actually the kit canopy parts are very nice. It's in two parts, windscreen/pilots canopy and center section/gunner's cover. They are very clear and thin, like Monogram of old.
I'll see how it works out with the vac parts, but no promises.. 😉

Quick update on the Stuka. Here's how all those rivets look under a coat of Tamiya grey primer.

I added the pilot's roll over bulkhead and the gunner's back strap from the True Details photo etch set. They have not been painted yet.

And last I added an MV lens to the landing light and added the cover. I don't know if the modification I did to the wing machine guns is correct, but I have to admit I like it. I'll add the Quick Boost barrels at the end.

You are a Jedi "Rivet Master". Don't think it could be done much better.

"Rivet Master" indeed. I guess that's better than being the "Bait Master" on a tuna boat. 🙂

Rick, your Stuka is looking great. All that extra work you've done is turning this build in to a real stunner.

Looking good Rick, those rivets show up rally nice under the primer.
Cannot wait to see the finished article.

Thanks guys. As to what come next, I need add the sirens, blend in the landing light cover into the leading edge of the wing, and add the horizontal stabilizers. Then I've got to sort out the canopy. Then it should be ready for final prime and some color.

The plumbers putty I'd poured into the Squadron vac-u-form canopy last night has dried.

I find it easier cut the canopy out of the carrier sheet by filling the interior with plaster, etc., so that there is something to cut against. Always use water based products for the filler
to insure it will release from the canopy.

The plug can also be used to make modified masters to vac-u-form, etc at home.

I probably wouldn't use this particular plug for anything other than a cutting board, but you get the idea.

I also got the landing light faired into the leading edge. Not nearly as much hassle as the Hurricane, but I will have to do some rivet and panel line recovery..yippee...lol
