This picture shows the before and after of cutting out a vac-u-form canopy.
You can see the scoring on the plug where I've cut through the canopy. The rough edges you see on the pilot's & gunner's canopies are from using scissors to separate the parts. That will be cleaned up if I decide to use these parts.

Neat job Rick. The Stuka has internal cockpit framing on certain parts - good luck with those canopy lines 🙂

So Gregor, the trap is sprung, No wonder you wanted me to open the canopy... the old "where are the internal canopy braces" trick. 😉
Seriously, thank you for letting me know about that, I had no idea they existed. A quick search of the trusty internet produced a picture that shows the frame work built up in the Airfix 1/24 scale kit.

Hopefully I can cobble something up that will pass muster.

Yep its a tricky old beast the Stuka!

Here's the internal canopy frame I knocked together. I decided to use the kit center section which is why the rear frame is arched. More soon.

Well done cockpit, the inner framing on lots of german aircraft is a challenge for most modellers, including me. The Airfix Ju 87 is the only Stuka with correct surfaces. The
Hasegawa Stuka is way to clean, but build great.
Good work on the canopy !

Started painting today and realized I'm not at all familiar with Luftwaffe early RLM 70/RLM 71 camo colors and I need some feedback. I'm using White Ensign paints which I had transferred into jars(I hate tins) and now I'm thinking I may have the labels reversed.

According to my labels, the airframe is painted in RLM 71 Dark Green and the propeller is RLM 70 Black Green, but it looks backwards to me.

I pushed the fill light to make the color contrast easier to see in the picture, but as you can see the prop is the brighter green.

I know I should have waited until l I had the paint finished and half the decals on before asking if I've got it wrong, but I had a tooth pulled Monday and it's addled my brain. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...lol

    Thanks in advance.

Well Rick, I am not familiar with the White Ensign paint line nor am I an expert on Luftwaffe colors, but I think you are right when you say that you may have gotten the labels reversed. At the very least, the green on that propeller looks way too green for RLM 70, however the fuselage paint does not look all that bad. Do not know what to tell you. Maybe one of our resident Luftwaffe experten will weigh in on this matter. Aside from the painting glitch, your Stuka is coming along quite nicely.

Rick, I agree with Seamus on this one maybe Bernd could advise you better as he does a lot of Luftwaffe subjects? A lot of the Stukas i've seen in these colours almost look as if they are all one shade rather than splintered with the RLM 70/71 but i've always thought the Black green was a bit darker than the colour I see on your prop blades...? Looks good with the paint on BTW 🙂

@seamus1, @duffmodeler : Thanks for your input guys. I also dug through my color references and researched on line and I believed we have reached a consensus that I screwed up the lables 🙁 Fortunately, I have only 6 parts that need to be repainted. Saturday is going to be spent layout the camo pattern with Tamiya tape. BTW the lables on the paint have been corrected. I also need to remember to put the sirens on.

Well more later, hopefully using your iModeler mail boxes works,.

Hi Rick, your Stuka has made great progress ! I am not a true expert on RLM shades, but you are on a good/right way, This aircraft were standard painted in RLM 70 Schwarzgrün
and RLM 71 Dunkelgrün, underside RLM 65 a light blue
RLM 71 is the lighter more "greener" shade, while RLM 70 is more dark into a tad blue
you can use FS 34079 for it, maybe with a few drops of black.
I have used a coupel of brands, offering these RLM shades, every manufacturer
    makes them different.
On new aircraft it is hard to tell the differences, later in the war only one color was applied on some aircraft. If it help you, here is my newest "interpretation": of these colors:

Keep up the great work ! 🙂

Bernd, your Ju-88 is outstanding, reading your build log was really helpful and did fully confirm that I had the labels reversed on my RLM70/71 paints. Tomorrow's project is to get the masking done.
