Pity about that wing to fuse joint. Don't forget the option of stuffing the gaps with strinps plasticard, may save you some sanding + filler shrinkage.

The upper wing seams are probably doable using Mr Surfacer (?).

Well Seamus, I had already stuck the wings together, so there was no going back as such. Any how, have given the offending joints a stiff talking to with some glue and filler and will check in the morning.
But all the same thanks for the heads up.

    Simon.

    Quick update.
Upper wing joints ready for priming?
    Under wing joints so so.
May need a bit more work?
Anyhow should be soon to priming and base coating.

Not to be an "I told you so, but there's a reason why everyone says the only P-47 kits to get are the Tamiya kits. I did one Academy kit. I think the Monogram kit is better.

Good work there Simon. Disappointing about the fit with the wings/fuselage but it looks to me like you've sorted it 🙂

You are not wrong there Tom, but it was the only kit I had in my stash that fitted the criteria.
The good lady has told me, no more models until build a few,so.
If not, I would of picked up the Tamiya version.

Cheers Gregor, it has been a bit of a swine but I shall find out once I have given her a coat of primer.
That should be on Wednesday, all going well.
But the build is on target for D.Day though.

Well its May 1st, a quick update.
The wings look Ok now but we will see when it`s primed.
The tail planes, well, it is not getting a funnier.
A total miss match of sizes.
The tail planes are narrower than the mounting surface by about .3 of a mm.
So have had to bias it so that the underside joint gets a load of putty to blend it in.
Hope to have some pics by the end of the weekend.

Well here is how things are.

    Before.

    A panel still proud.

And here is the fun bit.
    The underside joins.

Still some work to go before base coating.

Simon, this one is sure fighting you hammer & tong. I almost bought one of the Eduard "Jugs over Italy" kits the other day but didn't because of all the fit issues you've shared with us.

A question about the kit itself, did they include the correct prop, a Hamilton Standard with semetrical paddle blades? That the same kind of propeller that's on F4U-4 and later Corsairs.

Stay in there punching, you've beat it down, don't let up on it now...;-)

Cheers Rick, she has been a pain but I can see the light coming at the end of the tunnel.
Also you asked about the Prop.
    Well here it is .
I build models for fun so am no expert .
As for the rest, well I hope to get it to the stage of ready to decal by the middle of the month.

    Simon.

    Yep that's the right prop.
I had an Academy P-47D when they first came out and it had a couple of different Curtiss Electric props (pointy hub) but I couldn't remember if it had the HS prop in there too.

You have tackled this so far Simon. Finally got mine to about the same point you are at the moment. Not as labor intensive as yours but still some minor issues. You will see the different approach that Hasegawa's uses it's method in attaching the wing assy. So far so good. Now the issue I have is my PC just died so have been using my laptop, but for some reason "I-Modeler won't load on any of my browsers. Works here fine at work, old XP OS with Mozilla. My laptop is Win 7 running chrome or Mozilla, no joy. Other sites work just fine. Can't figure it out as yet. Will try to post later today on my progress.

Cheers Neil, I should be further ahead but you know how things can be.
Have marked out the gun bay panels to re-scribe and then hope to give her a second coat of primer.
Have decided to paint the D.Day stripes on, to keep it fresh looking.
A lot of stripes were not applied until the night before D.Day.
