Wales voted leave, Tom. Does that mean the Welsh part of your heritage is now conflicted?

I'm a Londoner (as was John Stuart Mill, by birth, since for some unfathomable reason, forgive the sarcasm, his Scottish dad chose to move there ) - we voted 60% remain - can we be a republic within the EU too, please?

And last but not least, since I live in Aus, in a relatively Kiwi heavy area, I'd just like to say I'm not feeling the hate, quite the opposite. Perhaps the bigotry has mellowed in some parts?

Tom, in the danger of being redacted, I have to say I agree with your sentiments. My oldest son (Connor, 26) just moved back to Edinburgh. We are thinking of following him.

Didn’t realise how much Celtic blood you had, Tom. That said, with a name like McCleaver, I shoulda known...

Matt, the Moby Dick comparison (the continuation of the ‘Leviathan’ theme’) is very strong in ‘Jaws’ (in fact the book ends with Quint sharing the exact same fate as Ahab, drowning when he gets caught in a line atttached to the great whale, which in turn died a quiet and sad death of blood loss, as did the shark in the Jaws book). Famously, Benchley (Jaws author) hated the Spielberg ending and it caused him to quit the movie crew. He relented when he saw the audiece response in cinemas and admitted that he was wrong.

    “Anyway, we delivered the bomb...”

When I was in Australia 55 years ago, it was still a "whites only" paradise (which is why Mel "Mad Max" Gibson grew up there after his white supremacist father took the family there to get away from "civil rights" in the USA), and was regressive even compared to the regressive USA of the day.

Brexit definitely proved old JSM was still right.

I have to say when I first met the British, I was amazed that what seemed to unite them all was their hatred of the English. Of course, Australia as the second English "concentration camp" (after the colony of Georgia) had pretty good reason for their attitude. I couldn't ever figure out the Kiwis, who seemed more English than the English, but I sure do remember that RNZN CPO who assured me the only thing "English" about him was his surname.

There we go, Matt - 500 posts and a whole lot of work to come. Loving these ‘Quint Quotes’ you drop in with.

Tom, with a middle name like McKelvey, I ought to have seen the Celtic connection. My own backgound is (I think) actually quite shallow when it comes to Scots blood, with Eastern European and Irish being the roots.

There’s a saying in Scotland; “we’re a’ Jock Tamson’s bairns” - loosely translated, we all come from the same place if you look back far enough...

Always a pleasure to hear from you. Having a heatwave here in London (folk are leaving their overcoats at home) and I’m on leave after tomorrow, so a bit ‘demob’ happy.

    “Farewell and adieu...”

    Freezing here in Aus, David!

I don’t understand why the Aussies don’t seem to hold that grudge anymore, but overall a really friendly and polite vibe until the sport starts! And that ‘intense banter’ disappears straight after.

The Kiwis I have met are so laid back and friendly I’d find it hard to believe that they have issues with anyone. Kind calm people!

Time a healer I guess. And many of the older gens are bound together by wartime experiences. ANZAC day is the biggest day of the year - bigger than Christmas.

If I look back 3 generations I have some Irish blood. My wife is an Aussie with Scottish ‘stone mason’ ancestry and the whole of the Aussie wing of the family is married to Brits of one sort or another.

Enjoy your holiday! Looking forward to ‘knotted Handkerchief’ photos!

Can we keep to the subject please? Model making is my escape and respite from the real world and politics. Politics is everywhere, sports, tv, movies, stage and now hobbies.

Fair enough Michael. I have removed some of my posts and edited some. I have left the ancestry stuff - David’s threads are famous for a bit of a ramble - but I take your point and tend to agree with it. The one post I have left is a response and somewhat ‘tongue in cheek’ and keeps the ‘sense’ in the thread overall. If David decides to moderate the thread further I am happy for that to go too.

Micheal, I agree...the last thing I really want in this thread is for reality to creep in. Hey, as a psychologist of some senority in Westminster, and no stranger to Whitehall and the corridors of the great and good, I get more than a little sick of politicking.

When threads get over the 500 mark and you have various strong personalities on board, the surprise is that the ‘reality leaks’ don’t spring up more often. It’s one of the true distinctions between iModeler and many (all) other sites; we self moderate brilliantly, as your comment shows.

As Paul notes, I can ramble. Mainly into existential nonsense, or the like. Or the not like. I’ve tweaked the content, and you are correct...let’s keep it fun.

The ramble comment wasn’t just for you David - it’s the ‘social modeller’ part of the package. I think we all like a little of the ‘ramble’. It’s fun.

    Here here !

This is not a place for politics, instead it's a place for people who share a love of building stuff as a hobby. Yet still we have some that continue to bring politics up, even though this "political point" has been brought up to them numerous times.

Rambling is one thing and politics is another... rambling is acceptable in my book. Promoting one's political views is not, unless this was a political forum, (which it is not). There's a time and a place for this. If this were a political forum, then by all means post your beliefs. Each person is entitled to their thoughts.

Thank you for coming back to base with this build journal.

You have made some amazing progress David. If I didn't know that the main cabin structure had been torn out and completely rebuilt, one would never know. It's all coming together and it's looking sharp.

In all honesty, I think it looks even better the second time around. You made me smile with the placement of the character figures and the associated comments with them...

I'll be looking forward to your next posting 🙂

    Thanks !

Well Louis, I have my half day tomorrow at University and then I’m on leave and I plan to model like I invented it.

Thanks for the nice comments, louis; not sure that I have much skill at this scratchbuilding malarkey, but she’s my Orca, warts and all, and it’s sure satisfying to build her up from nothing.
