Always wanted the USS Enterprise model, but never could afford it.
Interesting that Kirk's son's name is David.

I'll be watching this build with great interest.
Scotty ought to keep you in the 'know' about assembling the Enterprise. If in doubt, email him.

Nice start David, watched this as a youngster of course.
Nowadays I marvel at how they were able to voyage across the universe without any IT support at all.
Couldn't do it nowdays "...have ye tried switching it on and off again captain?"
    Take her out Mr Leigh-Smith!

I'm thinking of putting one of Trumpeter's 1/350 planes in the back of the shuttle bay for fun. Probably an RA-5! Have to see what will fit though.

One of my favorite scenes from IV!

Space...The Final Frontier. No one says that better than James T. Kirk.

    Great choice David !

I too remember watching this series... it was re runs by that time, but they were great shows (still are) to me. I also built the ancient AMT (or was it MPC ? ) kit of NC 1701. I left it in the molded color white. But back then I didn't paint hardly anything. Instead I built them rather quickly, having fun in the process.

Sometimes at work I would think to myself that I was surrounded by "Vulcan I d i o t s "... now substitute the "F" word for Vulcan and you get the idea... 🙂 I could say the Vulcan word out loud... not so with the other one.

I have a few Wildcats from my ‘other’ Enterprise build - now, that’ be great - and could put a shuttle raft on the flight deck of the Big E!

Louis, that is Vulcan brilliant. I need to try that one out. I’m not a curser by habit but every Vulcan time I need to from now on I’ll Vulcan use this Vulcan brilliant Vulcan idea. All those Vulcans at Vulcan work won’t know what Vulcan hit them.

    Thanks...I think...

David, be careful not to get too 'hard', or you'll become vulcanized.

    Hi David,

I’m arriving here too late (as usual) but still like to say how happy I am that you’re doing this build, especially since SF seems to be somewhat underrepresented here so far. I’m a big fan of the genre and hope to have some more than words to show it as well.

There’s nothing better than building an epic spaceship! I’d be doing one as well if I wasn’t lacking two things:

    1. One year of spare time
    2. 300 € (give or take) for Moebius Discovery XD-1 with all the accessories.

May the Force be with you… oops, sorry wrong franchise…;)

Thanks, Alex. I am very much on a deadline for Christmas with this build so it'll be done pretty quickly. I am planing at least one other 'Movie' build that will be Sci-Fi based in this group (and perhaps one 'monster' project). I'll get a little more of the Enterprise done this evening so do check in, late or otherwise.

The 'XD-1' would be an awesome project - a real 'bucket lister' of a build. Loved 2001 beyond words when I saw it and over the years it just gets better. This group build has been great for diving in to old movies and I've already had a terrific time (re) watching some great films in the last week or two.

    Live long, and prosper.

HAL, one letter removed from IBM, showed some AI reasoning for eliminating contradicting programming. Computers have trouble lying, or keeping a secret, when asked where it was going. Better to eliminate the question(ers) than to tell a lie. Is this artificial morality (AM)? 🙂

2001 is a timeless masterpiece, unsurpassed even today, half a century after its making. Transcending genres, it is grand in scope, yet meticulous in detail, philosophical, yet present… I could go on and on. It is my second most loved film of all times. If I was to fault it in any way, it would be that it is too organized and deterministic, but this is often so with Kubrick films. Certain amount of entropy helps in art, me thinks.
Anyways, since we are talking movies I think it would be a good to know everybody’s favorites. Here are my top three:

    1. Brazil - Terry Gilliam - 1985
    2. 2001: A Space Odyssey - Stanley Kubrick - 1968
    3. Dead Man - Jim Jarmusch – 1995

    Cheers,
    Aleks
