Well, guys... I'm on a roll at present so here's my next subject.
Possibly one of the most unloved of Luftwaffe aircraft designs, this was apparently rather a good aircraft to fly but by the time it had most of its issues addressed, the Fw189 was already in the same reconnaissance role and doing well; the unorthodox design probably didn't do anything to endear it to Luftwaffe officials and its requirement to use the BMW801 engine was an apparent issue as well, as Fw190 production would have a greater demand on this power plant.
There aren't many colour scheme choices for this one, so I've decided to try my luck with the overall RLM02 Grey scheme. As for the build, the kits is very good overall and more or less builds itself, although you have to be careful with the crew compartment, as it's moulded entirely in clear plastic and some deft painting around the various transparencies will be required.
Interior detail is first class, and I believe there are enhancement accessories to make it even more so, but I elected to build it as is, with the exception of adding in seat belts and some more life-like pedals. So far, the small transfers for the dashboard etc have gone down well so I hope this is a good indicator for the other markings.
As you can see below, the cockpit came up well and I have also taken time to remove the ailerons and rudder as well as scoring along the elevator hinge line in order to adjust its stance. I think this will give some life to the kit, along with leaving the crew hatches in the open position, and substituting the kit engine for the CMK BMW801 accessory kit. I salvaged that from my now-departed Do217 which developed terminal wing droop...! 🙁
Once I find a way round the incorrect propellor blades, I can get started with the painting; currently I have the 'fuselage' to wing as one assembly, and the wing/gondola as the other and have so far avoided plastering the latter with unwanted fingerprints or adhesive stains... I will endeavour to keep it that way!
Hope you like the progress so far.
Regards,
Paul
