@georgeswork - pretty much everyone thinks the F-80 scored the first jet v jet battle. Interestingly enough if you go to the USAF history site you can find the story of both the "first victory" and the fact that F-80s had been shot down by MiGs during the preceding days.
Most "official" history is indistinguishable from mythology, and particularly so with USAF history of the Koorean War. The "forgotten war" got forgotten so well that 70 year old wartime propaganda has survived unquestioned for 70 years and has fossilized into "fact-like matter."
