Great use of your sleepless night, George @gblair
Lots of cleaning but definitely worth it.
Nice approach to get all the handles in the same place.

Thanks, John (@johnb). My hands got a little shaky after I turned 70, so the tape also protects the plastic in case it doesn't land in the right place. This allowed a little adjustment without leaving a trail of glue marks.

That’s a great idea for keeping everything in a straight line, @gblair.

Thanks, George (@chinesegeorge). When you get to be my age, you have to rely on something besides reflexes.

Didn't really get anything done today. My wife and I took a field trip back to the city where we lived for 30 years before moving here. A few years ago it took 90 minutes to drive the route, now it took 2 hours and 40 minutes, thanks to traffic and road construction. The one big thing for me was the old really well stocked hobby store that I used to hang out in. Got some stuff for the cycle. Got my hands on the new Tamiya DAK colors, which should fit right in with my build. The general consensus on the internet is that they look pretty good. They look fine to me, so I plan to use the later war color. I noticed some things missing on the model that are fairly obvious on the walkaround photos, namely some bolts and the electrical wires that power the various lights. I bought some stuff to take care of that. It is supposed to be near freezing here tomorrow, which for central Texas is pretty cold, so I figure I will have plenty of inside time to work on the cycle. Cheers everyone.

I got a chance to try out some of the new Tamiya paint on the various parts for the sidecar. When I first mixed the late DAK paint, it looked a little pink, so I added a little bit of the early DAK color, which is more brown. Thinned the paint by about 30% and then started spraying parts. I think the color compares favorably with the online photos I have of restored BMW R75s. I sprayed a bunch of the small parts, then sprayed the interior and some of the busier areas of the sidecar. I left a lot of surface of the sidecar unpainted because I want to spray some metallic colors first, then use some chipping fluid to get some chips and scratches where the sidecar would run over rocks and bushes, etc. I should be able to continue painting and get some assembly done tomorrow. Yeah - moving forward.

Great shopping and great follow-up progress, my friend @gblair! The shade looks perfect!
P.S. Spotted some of your "train" stuff...I am not a train guy but love train models. There seems to be a lot going on there

Thanks, Spiros (@fiveten). It was a good trip, and rare these days to find everything I was looking for. Trains work out great to work on while something is drying on a model. I think of my train layout as a model that has moving parts.

Always great to pick up memories in your old hometown and even score some goods in your favorite hobbystore, George @gblair
The color looks great on the sidecar.
Those lower temperatures in winter time do indeed increase modelling time, same here at the moment +1 celcius during the day and -4 celcius at night.

Thanks, John (@johnb). We thought we would be going back to the old home town more often, but it has been 6 months, thanks to the longer driving time and traffic. It was nice to see the old gang again. Average temps in central Texas this time of year are usually around 70 degrees F, but we will be near freezing all of this week, along with a cold drizzle. I may have to get my coat out of the closet.

I sprayed some Vallejo Metals Steel over the parts of the sidecar where I wanted to depict some chipping and wear. I diluted it with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner and sprayed it with my "El Cheapo" battery-powered airbrush I got on Amazon. I haven't decided if I want to protect the metal with some clear gloss before I spray the DAK desert tan or just go straight into the DAK. I hope to get everything painted today, along with the chipping. Hopefully some more later. :o)

Thanks, Spiros (@fiveten). The metallic dried quickly to the touch, but I want to let it get really solid, then maybe I can skip the clear gloss. It will be nice to get to the point where I can start assembling things.
