About this Group

I'm planning a bit of probably torture building the 1/12 Italeri
Fiat Mefistofele. I'd like to plan the options to weather it just a bit from the museum look.
The brass radiator/grill surround is a big focal point.
I'd like to have a method to vary the tone of the brass appearance? Never done this...
I know the Wingrove method suggests making one from brass. Not going to happen here.
Of course I will test but to set that up, I need some baseline options and methods to test.
Here's what I'm thinking:

  • Polish naked part with compound
  • Prime with white
  • Polish lightly with paper towel or felt
  • A/B decanted or from supply: (rattle cans)
    Krylon Foil Metallic Gold
    Krylon Metallic Brass Spray
    Rustoleum Metallic Brass Leafing Spray
  • Polish lightly with paper towel or felt
  • Overcoat with Alclad Aqua Gloss Clear Gloss ALC 600 or the semi G
  • Lightly and not uniformly buff
  • Use thin oil washes of very light brown for toning

Maybe BMF or paint for the FIAT letters?
Dirty silver metallic paint for solder effects?

Ok what do those who know do?

Thanks

Clarence
