I should have the MicroMark kit by THursday. Then a couple of days to figure out how to use it and get set up. I'll take photos of the process and results.

IN the meantime, I've started painting cockpit parts. Got the primer (Mr Surfacer 1500 Black) and base colors down today. I mixed a custom batch of interior green to match the Quinta details which is a greener shade than the AK Real Colors version I had thought of using. I think it is a more accurate color anyway than the AK. I applied it and lightened versions over the black primer, trying to leave a bit of black showing through. Once I get the smaller details painted, I can gloss it and apply a wash and highlights.

I have been procrastinating on the other model projects and really should get some work done on them as well. 🙂

Tomorrow's boating day, so no modeling, except perhaps in the evening.

I've got the cockpit painted and ready for final assembly. The Quinta set really adds to the detail. One part which I could have done better is the color matching between the Quinta interior green and the paint I used for everything else. When I compared the colors they looked the same, but over the black primer (and I should have known this), it appears much darker. I tried bringing the two closer together using oil filters for the Quinta parts and dry brushing for the painted parts. It is somewhat better. Hopefully once in the aircraft body and closed up, the effect will be better. But I am resolving to get better at this for next time.

I just got the photoetch kit. Here is what you get. It seems pretty complete. I'll post more on this as I get into it.

Maybe not an exact match of colors, but those interior panels look really nice, Carl @clipper
Will look perfect once everything is in place.
Looks like a great PE set, looking forward to your first parts. What kind of software is needed to design the parts?

Thanks John (@johnb). From watching the video, all I have to do is create positive drawings of the areas I want etched out. So I can use any drawing program for that. I am going to evaluate the model first and see if there are any other areas of detail that could benefit from PE. This way I can save on materials and only have to do this once.

This image is blown up in size, but the true size image would be the same design, only a lot smaller. The black areas will be printed on some transparent film in the kit and used to block light to photo resistive paper used for etching. Like I said, I am not completely familiar with the process yet, but it works something like what I described. The bottom line is that the drawings can be quite simple to create.

Excellent job on the cockpit parts, my friend @clipper! Once installed, the difference between the two green shades will hardly be noticeable. Looking forward to your PE results!

Thanks Spiros (@fiveten). This kit is a real treat of a build. All the parts fit wonderfully and I've got the cockpit nearly finished at this point. Once the initial glue has dried, I have a few small PE parts to add. I have to evaluate the fuselage before gluing in the cockpit to see what else needs to be done for the conversion.

Here pictures of the cockpit with the added Quinta details. I still need to add PE handles to the guns.

    That's a great interior, Carl @clipper
Looking forward to see how those etched louvres will look like.

Updated artwork for PE. Again, this is sized larger for this post, but will be much smaller when etched. The lines are more pixelated here, but when at their correct size, are quite fine.

I made extras of everything in case the carpet gremlins jump up and grab some of these when I am making them. The gear doors and the bomb fins will be rolled with the gear doors rolled into a half circle and the fins rolled into a tube. I am also going to have to cast ten small bomb bodies (fun!). This is where it would be nice to have a 3D printer. 🙂

Interior looks like you could get in and fly away, Carl (@clipper). Very nice job. The PE set looks ultra-complete. Can't wait to see the results.

Thanks George (@gblair). I'm hoping this PE experiment works out. It will be a nice addition to the tool chest.
