Impressive scratch build radio, Woody @wkubacki
I'm also impressed by the chipping results, still need to figure out how to achieve that on my Zero.

@johnb That’s a tough one. You could use the red primer as a chipping base, and make it look more like wear/abrasion than chipping (gentle wet sanding of the top coat to reveal the bottom primer). And then you would have to ship the field applied green camo with wither the same method or the hairspray method (I think the former might look better). For the abrasion of the amber grey paint, the below pictures really show well how it happened in real life, with no real sharp edge to it.

Added some weathering tonight using Mr Hobby Weathering Colors (as opposed to straight oils). I think It turned out ok, I don’t want to go too far so I’ll let this dry for a couple of days and look at it and see if it needs any changes.

I’m the meantime I will work on the landing gear and painting the RC car body for my brother that has eaten up far too much of my time (you paint in reverse).

@fiveten @johnb Thanks guys. I won't take credit for any artistic talent here, I just fiddle and dab the paint until by sheer luck it comes out decent.

I’ve been maintaining radio silence while trying to finish up this model. For the most part I think I’m done weathering. Oils are a challenge on a smooth/shiny surface, but I didn’t want to spray a clear coat , then oil and then another clear because I’m nervous about getting texture from the clear varnish and I don’t have too much experience doing it.

For the wing root oils I used a combination of brown, black, burnt sienna, cream brown and dark green. I did spray a light coat of flat (GX-114) on the inner wings to make them appear worn and dirty.

The landing gear are complete. I added a brake line and touted it through the gear door and onto the lower leg. I painted it tire black prior to installation, but it needed some touchups after install.

I also added wires to the gunsight and radio and installed them.

Final touches will be added this week after I finally paint the canopy and install the clear parts (I know I really shouldn’t leave them to the end).

I have been fairly busy on the Raiden since my last update. I added a grand total of three decals onto the plans, 2 of which I needed to clear coat and sand down to remove the edges. Next I glued on the exhaust stacks. I tried to use oils to paint them but I didn't like how they turned out so I wiped off the oil and painted them with some Tamiya acrylics. I have yet to find a combination of paint to create a convincing exhaust, one that isn't rusty, but a dark metallic/brown.

Next up were the navigation lenses. The ones on the wingtips fit ok with some sanding of the mating surfaces (both the lens and the wingtip) and they were painted red and blue (not green). The tail lens gave me some grief since it didnt fit well at all. I had to sand down the lens and add some putty, and then polish it with a combination of sanding sticks (2500/4000/6000/8000), and then paint. Next time I will do this before paint!

Finally came the canopy, I could not delay it anymore. Normally canopies don't give me any trouble, but this one has very faint lines that were hard to follow. I also used a bit too much liquid mask that, when pulled off, chipped some paint. I'm not really happy with the canopy, but I'm a little past caring anymore. I started this build in April (along with the other two Raiden) and I just want to finish it. After installing the armoured glass, it was glued on very carefully with TET.

Then all the small parts were glued on, wheels, guns, pitot, gear doors and aerial. this all happened last night and I snapped a few pictures of the final product. I need to take some better photos with my actual camera (which I will post tomorrow.

Wow, it's been a journey and for th most part I am very happy with it. I tried my hand at more detailed detailing of the cockpit and riveting, and I do like what I see, but I don't know if I could do that for every build.

Here are some "better" photos that I took last night. I really need to improve my photography skill and pull out my actual camera (and get a backdrop, and more lighting).
