Catching up from the past two nights. I masked and painted the no walk lines, the fuel caps , and the arrow pointing to the step last night, and this night I built the radio. I have never seen the hole that must be in the rear decking to allow the radio cables to pass into the fuselage until yesterday, when I was looking at film clips of wrecked J2M at Atsugi and saw it in a plane that was torn in half. Eureka! Also painted the gunsight and replaced the glass with thin plastic.

Tomorrow I will paint the radio and cables and add a wire to the bottom of the gunsight and hopefully finish off the cockpit. I will probably leave the canopy off to keep it from getting damaged or scratched.

The radio is very nice, Woody @wkubacki
Good observation on the cabling and it looks very realistic the way you built it on your Raiden.

@johnb @fiveten Thanks for the encouragement. I'm getting close to the end of the build but only the start of the weathering.

Long time since my last post. I have been working on finishing up the cockpit, painting the radio, applying the decals and starting on weathering.

Playing around with acrylic inks from Liquitex. I’m using a mix of burnt umber, raw umber, and white, heavily thinned with Tamiya X20A. Then I sponge it on with a mostly dry sponge and then modify it with a dry sponge afterwards to get the random patterns I’m looking for. Then I darken and lighten the base ink concoction and apply that to add to the depth and variation of colour. If you mess up you can remove the ink with The cleaning agent 409 or Windex and it should not affect the lacquer paint.

It’s my first time using this method and I like how it adds small stains/variation that I wouldn’t be able to achieve with just oils. This is the third layer of weathering (paint, oils, ink) and probably the last for the undersides (save for gun smoke ).

Weathering complete, the small bits all glued on. There are a few items I need to add and then she’ll be done
