Just another small update @fiveten, @holzhamer and @johnb. This time I used my dark cardboard as a background to the pictures, highlighting the orange even further.

    Half-marks and black.

I got the numbers from a Zero

The undercarriage got some semi-gloss black.

again this is Humbrol enamel paint, and the wheels got a bit of Xtracolor. The rims naturally needs another color, probably it will be brush painted.

I sourced some numbers from my Tamiya Zero build

but of course I messed up one of the 6- decals, so now I may need to buy another Zero-kit. The letters will have to be cut from another source.

Thinking of getting a layer of semi-gloss over the majority to protect the decals before detail-painting and adding the last parts, leaving the tail to be able to add the decals when I find them.

Very nice work mate! did I mention that the orange really looks spot in? 😉
If may add a small suggestion, there is some thickness visible at the rudder tips, you might want to thin that area a bit… some things are best noticeable on close up photos, ask me how I know.
If you need some jap numbers I have some leftovers I can send

Pity about the "6", my friend @airbum! Looks like our friend @holzhamer will come to the resque!

Thank you for the tip @holzhamer. I just found another Zero in my stash, and guess what - it was not from that kit I got the decals, but from the Rufe! Should you have a spare set I would love the white numbers, I just need to check the correct ones, but it is from a decal with 3x3 numbers divided by a -, the 6 - being together, while the 5 is to be found elsewhere in the 6 numbers in the decal.

@fiveten, all good things come to those that wait 🙂 - if all else fails I have an excuse to go get one more Rufe for the stash (before Eduard releases their new one)

regarding that thickness Pedro, I did think the same when I saw the picture - darned closeups. . . 🙂

The black background makes the orange stand out amazing, Erik @airbum
Seems like a solution for the missing six is on the way, great to have those amazing fellow modelers around here.

Great that you found replacement decals, my friend @airbum!

After Pedro spent a lot of time going through his spares, the result was negative on Rufe spares in the @holzhamer household. So I took the easy option and went to my LHS and bought one more Rufe to add to the stash, and remove the needed decals from the decal sheet. Thank you for trying Pedro!

The old Tamiya kits are cheap and builds rather nicely, so I was happy to spend an amount closely resembling what one would pay for an AM decal sheet.

Still a great save, my friend @airbum!
I am sure the second Rufe will find its own path towards your bench sometime!

    @fiveten
Sorry I couldn’t be of assistance after all Erik, but your “save” option was a wise one indeed my friend. Looking forward to see the finished Nanzan

I did eventually buy another Rufe to get the missing decal. That also leaves me with an excuse to build one more Rufe @johnb, @fiveten and @holzhamer.

    Details

The other day my workbench was occupied!

She-who-must-be-obeyed used it to detail a Dalmatian, and as she had the brush “loaded” she got to touch-up the undercarriage on the Nanzan.

With that done it is closer to the cabinet.

I have added the missing decal, removed the paintmasks and started some more detailwork, so stay tuned for another small update soon!
