@johnb Do you know what exactly is causing the tight fit of the cockpit within the fuselage? I am probably going to join this group build with a Zero of my own for the 80th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor (I better make it a simplified build) and am using your builds as a guide for fit issues.

@wkubacki, not sure if it is a tight fit, but if the cockpit is not well aligned while attaching to one side of the fuselage it might become very difficult to close up the entire fuselage without gaps. Therefore the solution provided by Spiros @fiveten, is more safe to prevent any issue while closing up the fuselage. Would love to see your build as well, definitely for learning purpose.

Hi my friends @wkubacki and @johnb!

My cockpit seemed a tight fit at first, so I decided to attached it from underneath and gradually work the tightness: a at places seemingly tight-ish fit was not tight-ish at all, the only key point being making sure the aft fuselage "hidden" seam under the rear anti-glare area, where the rear cockpit bulkhead will "bed into place", is totally cleaned and the area leveled (easily done with a hobby knife and mini file): this way, the cockpitaffixed itself nicely:

Looking forward to your build Woody!

@johnb @fiveten Thanks fellas, looks like Mr Hasegawa designed a nice kit for the times. I'm looking forward to a bit more simplified build and paint scheme on the A6M2 after the J2M. As much as I want to build a PH Zero, the jungle camo is really calling me...must resist... single colour camo will be a nice change

Splendid camo choice, my friend @wkubacki! Yes, Hasegawa treated modelers with a splendid kit, back in the 90s!
Meanwhile, I applied some putty to my Zero...

    Thanks for stopping by!

@wkubacki, those are indeed great camo's. So far the Hasegawa kit is pretty nice, no real issues so far.
@fiveten, good preperatrion for the refinements my friend.

Was able to do some work on the Zeo as well, cockpit is fixed now and the alignment to the fuselage is pretty nice, just some small corrections to be done.

Wings are also attached. Did some dry fitting and it seemed to be ok to glue the upper parts to the lower part at first and finally glue it to the fuselage and use a rubber band to get rid of the gaps. After applying glue and fixing everything it turned out pretty nice, so far no gaps, let's see what happens if I remove the rubber band once all is cured.

Looking really nice, my friend @johnb!
    Those bands did the trick!

Both models look great, Spiros (@fiveten) and John (@johnb). Dual build is cool.

You guys are doing really nice work on these two kits.

Myself, I am going to wait on a Zero for eight weeks, until the review copy from Eduard touches down on my porch.

    Powerplant progress
Somework on the radial engine was done.
Exhaust ring painted in a mixture to make it look like burnt iron.
Cylinders painted in blackgrey and dry brushed with aluminum.

Dry fitted on the fuselage reveals no issues.

@fiveten, @lis, thanks for your comments

    Canopy masking
Eduard masking set was used to make it myself a bit easier on the canopy painting.
Masks were quite easy to apply.
