So, as I don’t work on Mondays, I got some work done on the Bug.

I fitted the radiator - which I painted yesterday with Alclad chrome - fuel tank and brake wires.

Then I thought I’d have a try at the dashboard, which I didn’t manage to remove the chrome from. There are 8 wires that come through the dashboard and into the magneto in the centre. The kit has thin yellow rubber tube, which is a little too fat, so I’ve used my trusty DP cable for the leads. I had to drill out the pins so the wires could pass through.

Here’s how the wires will look. There will be 8 of them.

I then painted the dial bezels.

Next will be the application of a really nice looking machined aluminium transfer and the gauge faces.

The dashboard is a really cool part of this kit, @injidup.

Just a small update as I’ve been busy replacing the cam belt and water pump on my 1:1 track car this weekend.
Fitted some of my video wires to the dynamo and added the gauge decals.

Also, I think I’ve found a source of leather for the seat.

I like the yellow wires, Kevin @injidup. What is your track car?

Hi George @chinesegeorge my track car has been this for the past 15 years, but with values going up I’ve decided to keep it as a road car.

I bought this with a friend a few weeks ago. 20 years old and has 222,000km (13,000 miles) on the clock.

So far it’s completely standard but we will do some work on it.

It’s in good nick for its age, but it’s no Lotus!
It’s only worth a quarter of the Lotus, though,

Great work on the dashboard, Kevin @injidup
Very cool cars, especially the Lotus.
I think you mean the Mazda has 22,000km, which is closer to 13,000 miles, not 222.000km. This milage is nothing, seems like a brand new car.

No, definitely 222,000km. It’s in surprisingly good condition. No salt on the roads where I live means that cars tend to last. The Lotus, however, only has 70,000km but is now over 25 years old.

The Mazda is a beauty, my friend @injydup!

@injidup, no salt definitely helps a lot. This is one of the major issues in car troubles here. Each year a lot of salt to deal with in winter time.

I grew up in England, and lived in the Netherlands for a few years, so very familiar with salty roads and freezing conditions. So glad I don’t have to deal with that any more!

We got the cam belt done today. Ready for a trip to the track next weekend.
