Finally getting into shape, Stan @stakke

Hi guys, didn't have a lot of time or energy to model last couple of weeks so progress is slow.

Picked it up again this week. Did some work on the engine and I added some more detail since I thought it was a bit bare ootb. The bodywork is giving me a hard time. There is so much tension in the frame that small glued seams are popping loose again so i reinforced those seams a bit. The repair on the molten part is almost done, needa some touching up after a coat of primer. I also discover that that part of the bodywork want be visuele, at least when I lease the hood closed which I might not do... 😄

An update on the build. Progress is slow but i did some assembly and painting. Turns out the kit is warped in more places than I previously noticed. Some smaller parts need some clamping to fit. I think merging the bigger parts and subassembly's will give me a few headaches 😄.

I'm painting the car in a lighter color than the yellow mentioned in the kit. It looks better and I found some nice reference photos.

You can also notice the reinforcements I made on the inside of the body. The two parts were so warped they snapped out of place when handling the car body.

Still some work to do, looking forward to finishing it.

Excellent job so far and grest tackling of the warped parts, my friend @stakke! Regarding the yellow, it is a great choice: always better to go for the shade that comes closer to reality.

    Very nice progress, Stan @stakke
For the warping, you might try to warm the plastic a bit and see if you can get it back into its correct shape.

I tested the deals today and guess what...?
They're still good! After 40+ years, no desintegration at all. Go figure 😄
Gonna look now how they interact with the setting solution.

Update: decals went on perfectly, which I find incredible considering their age. 🙂

Did some more assembling and it becomes even more clear that the plastic parts have felt the teeth of time. Fit is now sub par. I'm kinda wondering if part of the reason for this is the engineering of the kit. The car body is made from two vertical halve which is pretty strange when you think about it. And also the wheel housing is split in two halve which ofc brings a nasty seam that has to be tackled after assembly and painting of already assembled parts. Still gonna give it a go tho' 😁

A nice thingy I encountered were the chromed indicators. Ofc the glass wasn't chromed but that wasn't engineered separately. Dechroming parts previously showed that that actual sprue was made of translucent plastic which gave me an idea. What if I just scraped of the chrome layer where the glass is support to be...

Et voila! The result looks surprisingly good (see pic, before and after) 😁

Btw, I'm not at all satisfied with the way the paint looks so I'm gonna give that a better go, especially the black parts of the body.

Great that the decals worked, my friend @stakke! Indeed, the engineering of the kit presents some oddities. Great idea for the indicators!

Love the indicators, @stakke, nice details. Good luck with the rest of the model, your perseverance in overcoming the construction problems is amazing.

Those indicators do look much better this way, Stan @stakke
