Next step the radiator and associated plumbing. Not too much to this. The detail up set includes etched pieces to cover the radiator mesh. It also includes etched hose clips but I didn’t bother with them as it will all be eventually hidden. The radiator assembly just clips on, no cement needed, and is held in place by a screw in the bottom (sounds painful). Happy modelling.

Step 5 of the instructions deals with attaching the swing arm, including the chain and rear brake assembly.

Looking at the pictures of the bike the chain should be painted gold on the sides and metallic grey on the horizontal surfaces.

The rear brake disc is a kind of hybrid using etch for the actual disc, and the Tamiya centre part. I’m still not convinced by the after market detailing bits but I’ll go along with this.

    Happy modelling.

This looks very nice, George @chinesegeorge
The chain and brake disk do look very realistic.
I wish the chain and gear on my 1:1 Suzuki would look as clean as this one.

Now on to the rear shock absorber. The parts for this come from three sources, the standard kit, Tamiya’s detail up kit, and the super detail kit that I have.

Some of the original parts have to have some surgery, but the replacements come ready coloured. The coil spring has to be sprayed yellow. This is unusual as Tamiya’s detail up sets usually include a pre-coloured spring, but for some reason this one doesn’t. Maybe sales of yellow paint aren’t meeting targets……

Anyway, here is the complete assembly attached to the swing arm.

There are two pipes to be attached but the instructions don’t say where they should go to. Something to add to the “to do” list.
Thanks for looking and happy modelling.

In the meantime while we were on holiday one of my QA team has taken up a new hobby, photographing seagulls. Why did I lend her my camera?

The shock absorber looks very detailed, George @chinesegeorge
Seems like you had a nice holiday.

All sub-parts look really great and the completed assembly looks extremely convincing, my friend @chinesegeorge!
Better having a QA team occasionally using your camera than having a male QA team with 6yo average age experimenting with Vne (never exceed speed) on half-completed models...

Onto the front of the bike and the front forks. Using the Tamiya front fork kit makes this a doddle just as long as you concentrate and keep all the parts the correct way round. The metal parts are precoloured keeping painting to a minimum. Happy modelling.

Wow George, that rear damper looks like the real thing and the front forks are sublime! Those detail up parts really do make a significant difference. Unfortunately they are quite difficult to source at the bottom of Africa and exhorbitantly expensive if you find them. Great progress George!

That is a very nice front fork set, George @chinesegeorge
