I really love the idea of taking the sprue on the boat and continuing the build at see.
And the air must be quite dust free out there. Good for bringing the body paint on!

I could get the kit from China for that price George, but the delivery cost would be about £20 and it would take about 3 weeks to arrive. Then our good friends at customs will add on the import tax, so it would probably end up costing more than £50 in the end.

It's a nice change being on a boat Halvar, I just walked on with my bags without any trouble. When I'm on the oil rigs I have a weight and bag allowance, and I'm also forbidden to take any sharp objects such as a craft knife or sprue cutters on the helicopter. Then there is the danger of my kit getting crushed in the hold.

Dust is my arch nemesis at home, that and carpet fibres! There isn't a lot of dust on here, but you still get a little bit in the cabins. I haven't actually brought any paint though, just taking parts off and polishing them. I think the paint fumes would be a bit of a no no, especially the surface primer from the rattle can!

It's ok Simon, we have a limited selection of old blunt knives to work with onboard! The reason we are not allowed knives in our kit bags is to prevent any baggage handlers from accidently stabbing themselves! Any knives have to be ordered in advance and brought out by the supply boats. If I ever get a full time position out of this on the same rig, I'll definitely smuggle a tube of exacto blades out and stash them somewhere in my cabin, but it's a different rig every time for me at the minute.

Sorry, Richard, I wasn't for a moment suggesting that you bought kits from China, I was just making what I thought was an interesting comparison. I've had to send some documents back to the UK recently by courier which costs about 20 pounds and takes a week, but I know they are checked by Customs and Excise on arrival! It's funny, a lot of consumer goods are about the same price here as at home, even though they are often made in China (like iPhones for example). I'm keen to get the new Belkits Mk 1 Rally Escort which sells for about 30 quid here, how much is it from a UK dealer?

No need to apologise George, when I first saw the price of the kits from China I thought I was on to a winner, untill I looked at the logistics properly! The Escort kit is going for about £40 on ebay from UK dealers. I'm the highest bidder right now on a Toyota GT one, hopefully I'll win that one and put it with the others I'm not going to have time to build for years!

The referendum was a dissapointing result for myself. I couldn't vote because I'm offshore but Claire voted to stay in, as did the majority of people I know round my age group. I can't help but feel that blind patriotism got in the way of rational thought. Maybe things will turn around and the outcome will be for the best, and I will fully admit I was wrong if they do. However I sense another lengthy recession looming on the horizon, in a time where it is already near impossible for young people to make ends meet.

There is not much more I can really do with this build now till I'm home. I will maybe apply the masks to the windscreens at some point but I doubt that will make for a very interesting photo! I've been online and gathered a few reference pics of the interior and the engine. The cabin is not quite as luxurious as the Enzo, but this machine was not built for luxury. It was built to go really really fast!

After a bit of a debate we have all decided to do the FXX in the classic Italian Red!

I have included some pics of some of the other designs which are really cool, but there is no decals on the market to replicate them. I am going to apply the tricolore stripe inside the white stripe pictured below on the first black car though, I think that looks cool.

Without getting too political, I haven't seen a politician in the past twenty years that I would trust to run a bath, never mind the United Kingdom! If we had a strong leadership maybe I would have felt different. To me the current goverment, opposition and house of commons all resemble an episode of Blackadder! But that's getting too political!

Anyway, I'm definitely going for the Red car with the tri-colour stripe. The cars with the different colours under the nose look awesome, but I'm not sure how accurately I could mask that...

I've just been watching the latest Top Gear with the Aston Martin Vulcan, I hope someone brings out a kit of that, along with the McLaren 650S that's currently racing...
