Tamiya A6M2 1:32 Zero

December 9, 2012 · in Aviation · · 5 · 4.7K

I built this shortly after the kit was released. It was my first foray into highly detailed 1:32 scale kits, although I had previously built a Hasegawa FW-109 G6 out of the box, which turned out pretty well. This one, though, was far better and just as easy to build. I used Tamiya paints and kit decals, except for the aotake (blue/green) which was LifeColor I believe. It turned out very nicely solely because this is one GREAT kit, not due to any modeling expertise on my part. If you haven't built one of the big Tamiya kits, I can recommend them, and I hear the 1:48 kits (I have one unbuilt) and new 1:72 Zero kits are also excellent.

This one is the Mitsubishi built aircraft, piloted by PO1C Yamamoto Akira from the Fleet Carrier Kaga. He was a shotai leader, Pearl Harbor veteran and few CAP (combat air patrol) at Midway and few escort on Tomanaga attack on the Yorktown. He was killed in action on 24 November 1944 over Japan. He accumulated thirteen victories.

  1. Very nice work, Michael. I have done this kit and you are right about you. You've done excellent work here.

  2. Great engine details-too bad to hide it under a cowling.

  3. Michael... Very clean build and a fantastic looking Zero. I wish I had the room to work in that scale.

  4. Very nice indeed!

  5. Tight build, Michael. Very nice work on the colors and overall finish, just the right amount of wash and weathering.
