The Solar System
Something a little bit different!
My mate bought this for his four year old son who is developing a keen interest in space. I got the job of painting it! Something completely different, but it's also an interest of mine so I had some fun with it.
I've got no idea what scale it is mind! I know in reality you could fit one million Earths into the sun, but I think that would be a bit hard to replicate with a model kit. The size of the sun here is roughly the same size as a golf ball, just to give you an idea of the size of the model.
I would have preferred Pluto to be there as well mind, but it's been relegated to a dwarf planet unfortunately, poor thing.
Cheers for looking!
Interesting project, sir...nicely done.
Cheers mate! completely different, but it's still a model so I thought why not post it!
Absolutely right!
Cheers Martin!
Wonderful model and thought provoking for a four year old i guess. Love your comment on Plutos fate 🙂 You may have to upgrade the tiny solar system later on if the astro people decide to reinstate Pluto as a planet again. Are there after market stuff to get for it in case...?
Thanks very much! You never know, there might be a photo etch asteroid belt as well!
Scientists be d...med! Pluto is still a planet in my book!
Same feelings mate! I loved the photos we got back from the new horizons probe!
Nice Project. looking fine.
On first glance I see no scale neither in the relation of the planet sizes nor in the relation of the distances. It's just the order. Nontheless I like it.
Thanks very much! It definitely wouldn't work in scale!
Very different,a 4 year old built that Wow think what a modeler he will turn out to be,I enjoyed it always nice to see a change from the norm.
It was me who built it Jim, but hopefully it will catch his interest.
Sorry Richard I thought you just painted it'lets hope it does catch his imagination.
Now that's really nice! I think they have found some geological activity on Pluto recently.
Thank you Robert! There is still so much we don't know about our own solar system! But saying that, we still don't know an awful lot about the depths of the sea.
Unfortunately the Solar system is not something you can "easily" model in scale but until you are a child, you do not care about scale (I remember the dogfights between 1/48 and 1/72 fighters...) and I guess your little friend is enthusiastic about your work.
My display cases are still a mix of different scales. I'm sure he'll like it. Hopefully it won't get broken straight away neither...
Great job. I hear scientists are hopeful of one day finding intelligent life in our solar system...
Thanks David. I don't know, I heard dolphins were quite smart!
