RAF WWII Camo Collage

January 24, 2019 · in Aviation · · 5 · 3.1K

Hello everyone. This is my first post. No models to post yet, but working on them. This is a fabulous place and great resource. What I have done here is a bit unconventional, but I think relevant. I’ve been researching and learning about the RAF camo schemes from WWII, and was inspired to do this. It is on 12x12 canvas, and hand painted Hataka acrylic colors. It depicts the four main schemes of the RAF: Temperate Land Scheme (pre 41 and tropical) of Dark Green, Dark Earth, Sky (U); Temperate Land Scheme (post August 41) Dark Green, Ocean Grey, Medium Sea Grey (U); Desert Scheme Dark Earth, Middle Stone (in the place of Dark Green), Azure Blue (U), and the Sea Scheme Extra Dark Sea Grey, Dark Slate Grey, Sky (U). I thought it would be interesting to see the four schemes all together and see them flowing from one to the other. I would probably lighten the colors a bit next time. Hope you enjoy.

  1. Strangely, the sky in the upper left and lower right are the same color, but look completely different. I will take another photo in different light and post...

  2. Here it is in natural light. Looks a bit better

  3. Welcome to the site...I think you'll like it here. 🙂

  4. Neat. Very interesting that the Sky looks different when the light changes, but I guess that's how camo is supposed to work!
