COVID No.5. Trumpeter SBD-5

December 25, 2020 · in Aviation · 5 · 1.6K

This was started in 2014, but sat on SOD for most of the time until Covid shutdown. This is OOB brake lines, engine wiring, and EZ line antenna lines. Weathering done with a few drops of white added to dull coat, thinned, and sprayed in random pattern. Tried to avoid areas where foot traffic would be since oxidized paint would be disturbed. Tamiya white primer out of can on undersurface, Model Master on the upper surfaces. Pastel chalks mixed with Future to represent fluid streaking and chalks applied and burnished in for engine exhaust.

  1. Wow, what a nice result, Steve!
I loved the pastels/Future mix trick!

  2. One of my favorite WWII planes, looks great.
    Very nice emphasized details

  3. Wow, what a beauty that is, Steve! Also one of my favorite airplanes, and yours is awesome. Well done!

  4. Great result. This is one of the best Trumpeter kits (since they "paid homage" to the definitive Accurate Miniatures kit by upscaling it). The final weathering is superb.

  5. Impressive, Steve.
I like the cockpit details like the rope and the bullets in the gunner section.
    Well done.
