I think Hertz or some rental car agency would rent Shelby’s out and guy’s would take them to the track on the weekend. On Mondays the cars would be returned with holes in the floor pan from the roll bars . . .
Got a ride in one that had aircraft seat belts and the front tires where so big that they’d brush up against the wheel wells. It would do around 150 mph. In the 70’s that was pretty impressive for its time.
Great looking model , the 66 or the 67 Mustangs where the one model years that defined the brand or the “Mustang “. Steve McQueen immortalized it.

In 1966 an 11 year old me tried to talk my father into buying the 66 Shelby GT350 parked in the middle of the showroom floor. Aside from lacking a backseat (I told my father that my brother sister and I would happily lie down on the floor of the fastback and that seats weren’t needed), he objected to the price of $3,495.
