1/8 Taarna Heavy Metal

July 25, 2023 · in Figures · · 15 · 471

This a recent 3-D printed resin figure of Taarna from the 1981 epic film Heavy Metal...based on a magazine published through 70-80's [Sci-Fi/Fantasy]. I hope you guys like. IT was painted with airbrush mainly with detail hand painted with brush -mostly acrylics and small amount of oils

I posted this on other websites [no names-LOL] and crickets...no one is interested in a diverse variety of modeling subjects...usually one subject type...and even one scale-Little too constricting for my tastes.

Oh well Liking this Website! more to come!

  1. Stop the spread! Oh wait that was 2020.
Well I kinda like it, 'cept the face is a bit mannish. But that's the sculptor not the painter.

    • Nicely done work on Taarna.

Compared to many of the figure kits that come out of Japan, a slightly off sculpt of the face ain't a turn off.

Me reacting to some Ghost in the Shell figure kits, "No no no! Major Kusanagi does not have HHH airbags on her chest. How can she aim the Seburo MN-23?"

  2. Wonderfully done, Steven!

  3. Thank you

I agree the sculpt on the face is a bit male like...But I will be posting another female--much better face.

    Steve,

  4. At this website, even airplane guys like me are allowed to do cars and creepie-crawlies. Even ships! 🙂

Another reason why it's the best modeling club in the universe.

Nice work on this one too and an interesting result.

  5. Nice! I remember that magazine.

  6. I loved that movie and magazine as a kid. Great work on the flesh tones. Your subtle tonal changes are very well done.

  7. I’ve never heard of her or the magazine, but she’s a very welcome addition to this site.

  8. Good Job , I recieved this kit recently, am curious as to what adhesive will work the Best for assembly of a 3D printed kit

    • @pacnwmo - In my experience the Black CA glue from Starbond works exceptionally well on 3D printed resin parts. The Black part of the CA is rubber, allowing it to be a bit more flexible. Normal CA can be quite brittle after is fully cures. You can also use a small amount of UV resin and a UV flashlight.

  9. Great paintwork, Steven @sjcorvi
Must have been quite a challenge to mainly paint this with airbrush.

  10. Sometimes BUT the even color of the skin is what is best done w/ an airbrush. Also her hair!

    Steve,

  11. @sjcorvi - Nice paint work Steven. Heavy Metal was a great magazine and movie.

  12. ANOTHER option for 3-D printed resin kit assembly:
