Eduard 1/48 Mitsubishi A6M2 Type 11 Zero
Hello,
Here goes my recent project, the really nice Zero from Eduard. The kit is well engineered with nice details, including rivets. Version is the Profipack, so lots of PE and masks for the clear parts. The decals are the new type, i.e. you can peel off the film after the application and get paint like results. However, the process is not risk free. I've managed to damage a few stencils, but the big ones worked fine. Nevertheless, the Hinomarus and stripes were masked and painted, always better.
As far as my references go, these fighters operating in China in the early stages of the war (1941 this one) apparently didn't suffer too much with poor quality paints, as would be the case later, so the chipping was kept moderate. Weathering was most dirt from the dusty/muddy air strips where they operate from.
Paints used from Aqueous Gunze and Tamiya. Oils and the usual pastel.
Hope you enjoy! Cheers!
George
This is an outstanding effort! The look of the weathering is impressive.
Thank you!
This is simply a masterpiece. The weathering is superb. Bravo George, @george72!

WOW!
By George, that's an awesome looking Zeke!
Definite a (type) 11 - out of 10.
Thank you!
The light you used can be a good point in showing just how hard it is to describe the J2 shade. Good work, a solid build there George!
Thank you!
Love the weathering and paintwork. A beauty.
Thank you!
Great build and very impressive paint /weathering finish.
Thank you!
Fantastic job and am awesome result, George!
Thank you!
Great result. The kit is excellent, and you have definitely gotten the most from it. A beautiful result.
Actually, IJNAF paints weren't bad. The "terrible" paint surfaces seen are all on wrecks that sat in the jungle under the tropic sun for awhile before anyone photographed them. More research is showing that just about everything we thought we "knew" about Japanese airplanes was colored by wartime propaganda.
Thank you! Well, good to know this about their paints...
This Zero is a true gem, George @george72
You kept the weathering perfect.
Two thumbs up.
