'The Troubles' Northern Ireland

November 9, 2023 · in Diorama · · 9 · 0.9K

When I saw Airfix had released the Ferret Armoured car it was a very quick decision to buy it. I'd always wanted to do a diorama featuring British troops in Northern Ireland so here was my chance. Big problem is getting 70s/80s era British troops in 1/35. I however managed to solve this with using the Dragon Tet Offensive Marines with minor changes to their flak vests and new heads to make them members of British 2 Para under attack at a checkpoint. Getting SLR rifles in 1/35 wasn't easy but I tracked them down off the web. I'm pretty happy with how it's come out, and has captured the urgency of evaluating a soldier who has been knocked out by a rock.

The Ferret itself was a very simplistic build which I actually loved. Some kits now are just so complicated, it sucks the fun out of the hobbie sometimes. Although a simple kit, it has internal detail of seats radios etc and all the hatches can be built in an open or closed position.

  1. @carlpud - Nice work Carl. All the effort put into tracking down the elements of the diorama did indeed pay off.

  2. Well done. Thatโ€™s an interesting little vehicle. Donโ€™t forget to secure that rifle!

  3. Nice work on all - the vehicle, the troops, the diorama as a whole. It communicates fear and urgency. I like it a lot.

  4. Very nice dio of a subject rarely seen. Don't need to repeat whats allready said in the previous comments.
Just one slight point - the skintones look rather unnatural - a bit too "orange" in my eyes.

  5. A very nice diorama, Carl @carlpud
I like it that you even put some elements behind the concrete wall.

  6. Amazing job, Carl! Indeed, your diorama serves its purpose!

  7. Very good, you can really feel the tension in the scene.
