Lately, I’ve been painting several figures at once. As I paint with oils, and due to the slower drying time, I rotate work on them so I’m able to keep busy.
So, unsurprisingly, I'm a bit of a paint addict, much to my wife's chagrin.
I use Old Holland and Charvin primarily, I would say. And more recently, I've started using Vasari and Williamsburg.
I've started using a lot more black than I ever did before to get that de-saturated look which I really like. And on the other end of the spectrum, I use pale yellow light instead of white, for the most part, to avoid that chalky, washed out quality. I use a lot of earth tones, more so than the cadmium primary colors, which are too bright for my tastes.
In terms of metallics, I alternate between NMM and TMM. I would say I'm definitely intrigued by the versatility of NMM.
What’s your palette and brand favourite for oils?
