Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. J Remote Control! by Tamiya 1/35

April 20, 2024 · in Armor · · 10 · 138

I was working on several other models, as we often do, when I got distracted and saw this was available. I was blown away by the fact that had 1/35 scale RC versions of some of their tanks. I had to pick this one up immediately. While it was much more expensive than an average model, I couldn't resist the idea of driving my own tank. Since I was young I dreamed of my models coming to life and moving around realistically. Now that is a reality.

The build went together great but it was quite a challenge. Assembling the internal components was something I had never done on a model. Fortunately, the instructions were very detailed and clear about each step. I even had to apply grease (provided in the kit) to the gear mechanisms. I felt like a real tank mechanic for a moment. The turret traverses left or right and the barrel elevation can be raised and lowered.

I wanted to make sure that it not only functioned like a real tank, but also make sure I put the same attention to detail to the exterior that I have done for others. That way it would also be a great display piece. I used Tamiya paints, Winsor and Newton oil paints for washes, and AK streaking grime and heavy chipping fluid. I am really happy with how it turned out and driving it more around my living room.

  1. Solid work and a great result. The paintwork and weathering is first-rate. Have fun taking all the "lebensraum" in the neighborhood. 🙂
