Reminder for the upcoming Great War group build
This article is part of a series:
Hello again my friends. This is just a quick reminder that we will have a new group build starting in a little over two weeks from now.
It will be for anything that is somehow related to the First World War.
Aircraft, Armor, vehicles (including motorcycles), ships, artillery and anything else that could be somehow connected to the war will be allowed.
This group will follow the same form and similar rules as our recently completed Korean War group.
It will follow the exact same dates as the conflict had. It will start on July 28th, 2024.
It will end on November 11th, 2028 which is a little over four years away.
This should give us ample opportunity for any projects that you have in mind.
Everyone is welcome to join us and there will be a provision for allowing previously started builds. This might help us to clear off the shelf of doom.
It might also be the perfect opportunity to build some of our Wingnut Wings kits.
It will be here soon so please start planning what you want to make for the group.
The main and non negotiable rule will be that you have fun. After all, this is why we build.
As always comments are encouraged.

I'm thinking a 1917 Harley-Davidson military motorcycle would be a fun challenge to 3D model and build.

It will be the ultimate way for us to both honor and remember the brave men and women who sacrificed so much for us.

Hello John. If you don't have anything, please don't go out and purchase something new just to join the group. That is not necessary. Just having your usual comments and moral support is enough. I would feel bad if you spent money that could have been used for something else more important.
On the other hand, if you want to do that, by all means please do so. I am not trying to convince you to spend money that's all.
I might need a hand running this group, and I'm asking for assistance as I have with a few of the other groups. If you would be interested in helping that would be fantastic. I have asked our good friend Spiros if he would help too.
It would be ran like the other groups we have done together in the past. Please let me know. Thank you.

@lgardner, even though my stash is not as huge as others have, I did find a 1/48 Eduard Profipack of the Nieuport Ni-17. This should definitely be suitable for this group.

Thank you my friend. I appreciate your continued support. I'm sure that whatever you come up with, that it will be grand. Building things with multiple wings can be daunting. You might be able to find something that doesn't require much rigging. Some of the Fokker types are like that.
Or you could try a tank, ship or automobile of sorts ? There are all kinds of options available here.

All wars are horrible, with some being worse than others. Any time a human being loses their life it is a tragedy, especially in a war. It seems the old men start the wars, while the young ones do the fighting and dying, as do the civilians who are caught up. Wars are senseless, and a waste of time, money, and resources, with the most valuable of them being life. All life is precious, man or beast.
You mentioned this in your last post when I first mentioned the idea for this group build. You brought up a single entry as a reason why not to do this, and were the only person to reject the idea.
That is your opinion and I respect that.
Freedom of speech is one of the things we have kept by going to war. It is not available everywhere in the world however, even in today's modern society. As bad as any war is, it is sometimes a necessary evil. Please look at the 1939-1945 era and think about that. Something had to be done and thankfully for us living today it was.
Things would be much different today if it was not done.
However I will have to respectfully disagree with you here.
I feel that if we "forget" the terrible things that happened in the past, then we are doomed to repeat them all over again. Erasing our past is never a good idea. Instead we should remember it, so that we learn from our mistakes and do not repeat them again.
Having another World War like this now would be horrific, especially with today's modern and brutally effective weapons.
Sadly I feel the world is not too far away from something like this happening right now.
But I will not go into the reasons why. This is not the place nor the time.
I want to use this group build as a way to remember those who sacrificed. Those who died. Those who were tragically maimed, mutilated or blinded. Those who were permanently scarred with no visible wounds or injuries. Remember those who suffered. Those from any Nation who were somehow involved in this horrible war.
Let's use this group as a way to not only remember these brave men and women, but let's honor them too.
Let's honor them for the very reasons I mentioned above.
These are the reasons why I believe this is a great idea. There's a reason why there are poppies at Flanders... and the words "Lest not we Forget".
Freedom is not free. It never has been, nor will it ever be.
I believe you were once a soldier, as was I. Even though we served in Armies from other Nations, we still served... as we felt it was our duty to do so.
If necessary, I would do it all over again in a split second if I had to. I would do it all over again because it was the right thing to do at the time. I would do it again for my buddies, who were fellow solders like we once were..
If anyone should know this, we should.
We my friend, are the ones who keep this knowledge of war, and how brutal and horrible it can be... bottled up inside us, and live with it every day.
For some of us, building these models of war and destruction are a way to get some relief. As odd as it may sound, it is true. We get to escape to another time and place, even if just for a little while.

I do sincerely respect your thoughts about this and your decision.
Having the freedom to disagree is one of the many freedoms that we enjoy today because of what others have sacrificed for us many years ago.
Any group build on here is just like any television channel. If we don't like what is playing, we can always change the channel for some other form of entertainment that we do enjoy.

That looks like an awesome book ! The Wahlfish is an odd looking bird, but one I like. I have been toying with the idea of drawing up some flying scale RC plans for one of those, at a manageable 1/6 scale. Anything bigger is too hard to transport to and from the flying site. But boy do they look great in the air ! Here is a case where bigger is better... flying in the sky.

A 1/35 Meng British Male Mk V tank...
so it looks like we will be building vehicles that could have fought each other. Someday I would LOVE to get one of those A7V's. It would look wonderful parked next to the British tank.
We should have some time for other projects as well.
I have a few in mind that fly too. This is one that has been on my radar for quite some time. I'll be using a WNW Fokker and Aviatik decals.

I have some WW1 aircraft kits in the stash still to build, although the numbers are dwindling at present. I would hope to be able to include a few here from time to time... :-).
