Microscale's Set and Sol 3D printed stand

August 8, 2024 · in Uncategorized · · 18 · 175

I'm not sure if it's an appropriate place for such things, so if this post will be deleted - I will understand. But I want to share this type of modelling I do also - 3D.

I've created this stand for Microscale's Set and Sol decal liquids. The original idea was to hold the bottles angled for more convenient use, as well as to keep them fixed and protected from tipping over. I also added pins to prevent the bottles from spinning, so you can easily open and close them.

I printed the model with my FDM printer (0.4 nozzle, PLA silk). As you can see, I did the printing at an angle (15°) to make the top and the cylinders more accurate and smooth.

The model is free for non-commercial use and licensed under the terms of the CC BY-NC license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/) and can be found in my Telegram channel - https://t.me/starfar_scale_studio/170 since I can't attach an STL file here. I think it's pretty easy these days to find a local 3D printing shop and order the print if you don't have your own printer or a friend who does.

  1. VERY cool.
Show us your first model kit from 3D...no doubt soon, eh.

This not gonna happen soon 🙂 I would need a completely different skills to model something like an airplane or even some part of it.

  2. Very nice solution to a problem that no doubt plagues many modelers. I cant recall the number of times ive gotten in a rush dipping my brush deep into a well used bottle, only to have the crimped steel of the brush catch in the bottles neck, toppling it over [or very nearly]! Well done, and thanks for sharing.

Yes, exactly this! Happened to me many times as well.

  3. This is a wonderful and practical stand, Dmitry @starfar
    Thanks a lot for sharing.

  4. Well done Dmitry @starfar, a well thought out design. I may have to copy your work and print up one of my own. I can't count how many bottles of Micro-Sol/Set I have spilled. This is a very nicely designed way to alleviate that problem. Thank you for sharing and a great idea.

  5. This is nicely done Dmitry (@starfar). I might suggest a few small changes. If there were two holes in the back that two paint brushes could fit into (handles down), this would be nice. I am not sure about others, but I prefer to use separate brushes for these two decal solutions.

One other suggestion. I see you have two small holes in the front for toothpicks and such. If these holes are large enough for micro brush handles, then all is good, and if not, perhaps that could be slightly increased in size.

    Thanks for posting.

    • @clipper I can do some changes to the model and share the updated STL file for printing.

      Something like this?

What do you mean by "micro brushes"? Can you post a link or something? The holes are 2.5mm in diameter, but for sure they can be made bigger. Do you know the diameter of the micro brushes?

  6. Great job, Dmitry. Thank you for sharing.

  7. Excellent idea, Dmitry! Thanks for sharing!
