Tamiya 1/48 P-51D Blue Nose
This is a famous plane that probably needs no introduction. Petie 2nd flown by Lt. Col. John C. Meyer as CO of 478th FS of 352nd FG. Meyer scored 24 aerial victories and destroyed 13 planes on the ground. After the war he rose to the highest levels in USAF. His photo is below. Plane is as it appeared in August-September 1944.
I bought this kit in order to build this plane, but discovered that the kit has options for 3 other nice planes - I think I will order it again and build another.
Fit is very good. I filled in the slot behind the cockpit that allows the canopy to slide.
I experimented with different shades of metal for various panels and learned a lot. All paint was Vallejo Air and finish is gloss floor polish. Fun build.
