Hasegawa F 104S ASA M Starfighter in 1/48 scale

June 20, 2013 · in Aviation · · 7 · 3.3K

This issue started out as the German 'Bavarian' version until one of my modelling friends informed me that he had served in the Italian Air Force & had some spare decals for this version & intended to build one as well. I couldn't resist & this is the result. The kit went together without any trouble at all.

I usually do a lot of web image searches & was lucky enough to find some beautiful photos of this particular aircraft which were a great help with the weathering. The only changes to the original kit were the twin ventral fins, rescribing the different auxiliary air intakes, a new ejection seat, fairing in the cannon & a few minor embellishments in the cockpit. has done an excellent job with this kit & in my opinion, capturing the look of the to perfection. I still like the German camouflage though; maybe next time...

Hope you like it.

  1. ..and the weathering turned really great. I'm into building an Italian F-16 and many of them looked just the same way as your model. Excellent job.

  2. Excellent toning, I liked it!

  3. i agree...very sweet patina

  4. Very nice work. I remember first seeing an F-104A Starfighter at a show in Denver at the local Air Force Base back when I was a kid. It looked like it was going a million miles an hour sitting there, and yours still does.

  5. I like it too! I seem to remember that Airfix did a 1/72 kit of this with German markings, but that must have been a very long tima ago.

  6. One of the best starfighters ive seen great job

  7. Tom,
Very nicely done. Not only was it fast looking sitting on the ground but the leading edges seemed as sharp as a knife.
