À la recherche des maquettes perdu
One of my resolutions on retirement was to finally re-indulge in the long-abandoned pleasure of scale model building.
I built my first models when I was confined to hospital for long periods around age 8 to 12. My dad, a former RCAF meteorologist and longtime aircraft fan brought me those kits. I can’t even remember what the first one was, or what all of them were, but I thought it would be an interesting memory exercise to try to list all the kits I could remember. Now of course, the old Frog kits, and early generation Airfix and Revell would seem crude by today’s standards, but I loved those kits, and the range of camouflage patterns to explore.
I wish I had hung on to some of them. While my paint jobs wouldn’t hold up today, it would be neat to have a few for nostalgia, maybe even repaint some of them.
All that remains is a spare parts box with engines, wheels, turrets, etc.
This is the only picture I have – a blurry 2 ½ ”snapshot of the Frog Macchi Folgore taken with some weird little camera, probably when I was 12 or 13.
They were all cool planes.
Cheers.

I see bits of a Lancaster, FW190, DO217, Beaufighter , HE111, and maybe an Airfix Halifax engine. Good time to start anew. Welcome!
Some of my brother's kits mixed in. I think there are some Ju88 engines.
A nice trip down memory lane.I know I did Revell's Memphis Belle, and I think their me 109 1/72.
The Memphis Belle was a nice kit for the time.
If I had kept all of the model aircraft I had ever built, I'd have to move house, but... what a great time to start again, with a clean slate.
Yeah, I'm going to stick to 1/72 so my wife doesn't put me and the models out on the street. Cheers.
