1/32 PCM Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 (Early)

November 14, 2019 · in Aviation · · 13 · 2.7K

This is 1/32 Pacific Coast Models Hawker Mk.1(early) with the markings of L1909 LR-R, 56 sqn RAF North Weald, mid 1939

Cockpit modified with Warbirds seat and control stick.

The fasteners on the cowling look a little thick, so I decided to delete and re-scribed them.
Watts 2 blade propeller is from Fawcett Models
PCM's canopy is not suitable for opened position, so I swaped it by “Artillery” vacuform canopy .

Painting done with Gunze Sangyo acrylics and Alclad metalizers

Happy Modelling

  1. Very neat and tidy. That's a great model of a 56 Sq Hurri with their early squadron codes. Well done!

  2. That first photo certainly catches the hunched stance of the Hurricane well and that vac form canopy was definately with the extra effort.

  3. Nice! I have this kit in my stash and pull it out every now and again, your build may just be the inspiration I need to finally build it. Well done!

  4. Very nice! Wonderful paint work as always.

  5. Great looking Hurricane!

  6. What a fantastic looking Hurricane !

I built up a smaller one in the same 56 Squadron markings, also as "LR * R" using the new tool 1/48 scale Airfix kit. Mine differed a little from yours, as it has a 3 blade prop with slightly different underside paint and no serial number on the fuselage sides. It is possible that yours depicts the same machine, but at an earlier time of it's service life. Many of the early Hurricanes were upgraded from cloth wings and two bladed Watts props, to metal wings and a 3 blade propeller at various repair depots.

Fantastic build Sir ! My hat's off to you... Well done. The paint job is exquisite and your usual standard.

    • Thanks Louis.
I have used the scheme on the PCM box
It s possible that this bird modified by metal wings and new propeller.

  7. Really, really nice.

  8. Really nice (as usual) Tolga. Beautiful paintwork.

Not entirely certain why you had trouble with the canopy. Here's a photo of mine with the kit canopy in the open position.

  9. Thanks for your comments

  10. Always impressive...I really like the lighting and the photography. Excellent composition, framing with clear well focused shots. The warm, bright natural light can really be brutal in revealing any mistakes. Now add close ups of the model and you have a formula for frustration ...unless your build is constructed with little or no mistakes.

Naturally, the painting has to been done so that the light compliments the paints ...you know none of the colors are straight out of the bottle and have been carefully mixed and applied.
The real magic is that it looks easy and simple to do ...when you know it the opposite of.

    Two thumbs up MR. T
