BMW HP4 Race
Hola from Barcelona!
This is my recently completed Meng 1/9 scale BMW track weapon.
I went for the pre-coloured version of the kit for something to pass the time after work on the boat. I gave the exhaust pipes a quick heat staining with the airbrush before I left home, and brush painted a few extra details such as screws and engine weathering. But other than that, this is how it looks straight out the box.
It builds up really well also. I found the fairings hard to attach on the Meng H2R, but that wasn't the case at all with this kit.
Plus my screw driver was magnetic this time! Maybe I just got a dud with the ninja.
The bike itself for those of you unfamiliar, is a 999cc track bike based on the BMW S1000 RR. It was the first production bike to feature a full carbon fibre frame, and carbon fibre wheels.
With 215hp on tap, the performance is comparable to a world super bike. BMW made 750 of them, and you can still find them for sale in the auto trader if you have a spare eighty grand lying around.
In all, a fun easy build. Not a cheap kit by any means, but it looks cool.
I'm tempted to buy the bare plastic version to go in the stash, maybe do a custom paint job when I'm old and retired!
I have just found an airbrush and compressor in the paint locker at work though… so maybe my modelling career isn't quite finished just yet!
Thanks for looking.
Beautiful kit Richard!
Thanks mate, cheers!
Looks good, Richard, I like the extra colouring you’ve added. Still working on mine, I’m finding some of the push fits need a lot of pushing and I’m scared of breaking something. I remember there were a couple of interesting model shops in Barcelona, but it’s quite a few years ago when I was last there.
Hi mate.
Yeah there are a few good shops here. I’ve bought five new kits this month, even if they won’t get built for years.
I found a few bits hard to push in as well and had to file them out a bit.
Amazing result, Richard @richardmcstay48gmail-com
Even on the close-up pictures it is hard to tell that this is a model, it looks very realistic.
Thanks mate. More the kit than me though!
Amazing result indeed, Richard! Congratulations!
Cheers mate, thanks very much!
A real beauty, looks great.
Thanks very much!
