1/72 GMC 2 1/2 Ton Cargo Truck
Several years ago I started a collection of significant 1/72 WW II military equipment which not necessarily involved actual ordnance. Of course the new Airfix Higgins boat was the first finished, with the next being the iconic German 88mm artillery piece. I wanted the next to be the unsung GMC "Deuce and a Half" cargo truck, which, manufactured in the hundreds of thousands, was the backbone of the Allied supply line.
I had thought it was also the backbone of the Red Army via Lend-Lease but that's not quite correct. The equivalent Studebaker version was what was shipped to the Soviets, where over 400,000 made up the predominant cargo vehicle of the advancing Red Army. Known as "Studers" they played the same role as the GMC version in other theaters.
This version is by Walterson's and carried markings for the 1st Infanty Division in Normandy in June 1944.
Excellent result on this little mosel, Michael!
A very nice result, Michael @mcsmith1964
Especially considering this tiny scale.
Great job!
