De Havilland Mosquito NF Mk.II - 1:72

January 4, 2015 · in Aviation · · 20 · 3.8K

As they said: the first pancake is always spoiled. So here's my first model that I finished around a month ago. Because I'm in love with Mossie, the choice was simple and a seller at the local store suggested the Kit 1:72 as appropriate for beginners. Well, he was right. The kit isn't too complicated, parts fit perfectly and it doesn't require a lot of work on fixing and corrections. It was a pleasure to build it. I chose to build the NF version for two reasons - I liked it and the painting scheme is simple to get used to the airbrush.

Aircraft: De Havilland NF.Mk.II, DD712, 'YP-R' of 23rd Squadron RAF (Manston, UK, 1942)
Kit: Airfix A03019, 1:72

This aircraft (DD 712) took part in many 'Intruder' operations and one of its pilots was a superb RAF Wing Commander: Bertie Rex O'Bryen 'Sammy' Hoare (1912-1947), credited with 9 victories and decorated with D.S.O in 1942 - photo included.

  1. Welcome, Lukasz...back to modeling and onto this great modeling SITE. Nice job on the Mossie (but I don't think the pilot can reach the rudder pedals). πŸ™‚

  2. Nice first post Lukasz. Airfix is bringing out a 1/72nd Beaufighter you can build to go with your Mossier.

  3. Your Mossie looks great! Can't wait to see your next model!

  4. Nice build, looks good, as Morne said, i am looking forward to your next one

  5. Great build of an Airfix classic. Well done πŸ™‚

  6. Very nice work. πŸ™‚

  7. Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you like it. I will present my next model later in the evening, just finished a few days ago - Spitfire (S.31), also Airfix kit.

  8. Nice Mossie mate, the "Baderised"pilot was done so to avoid the cockpit wall.
    Well done mate.

  9. This is the way to go Lukasz.
Start with a good quality kit of your favourite object.
Build it straight out the box.
Paint it in a simple scheme.
    Result looks good.
    Keep going!

  10. The Mosquito is an all time classic, and so is your model, great start on iModeler!

  11. Thanks a lot for all your comments. I didn't expect such responsiveness to a beginner's work, it's really motivating and I really appreciate it. Awesome community here πŸ™‚

  12. Very nice Lukasz - that is your first model? That is an impressive build, even for a non-first timer! Looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.

    Nice job!

    • Thank you Paul. Yes, I can call it my first model, the last was about 20 years ago when I was a kid πŸ™‚ I will surely present everything I'll build... well if it's not completely spoiled πŸ˜‰

  13. The Airfix Mosquito is one of the all-time classics, and you did a fantastic job on it. If you are trying to familiarize yourself with your airbrush, you couldn't do better than to buy several other of the same kits, As you said, it goes together quick and easy (and it has very few panel lines, of course), and it was in so many different schemes that you can really give the airbrush a workout.
