I have been modeling since 1965. I build models of aircraft from WWII to the present almost exclusively. I have a fondness for the old Revell 1960's 1/32 kits. I will usually toss all of the kits parts and scratch build cockpits, wheel wells, landing gear struts, gun bays, sometimes engines and most often everything from the firewall forward. It is not at all unusual for a kit to take me 8 months to complete because for me, if I see it in a reference photo or ones I have taken of the real aircraft, it will be scratch built. And if there is something glaringly wrong with the kit I will take the razor saw to it and fix it. The only aftermarket stuff I use is Waldron instruments and seat belt hardware and cockpit placards if they are available for that particular aircraft. I recently got a lathe/milling machine which will open even more opportunities.
