You are doing an excellent job, Bernard @lis
Despite all the struggles you encounter, your percistence will deliver a beautiful Fortress in the end.

This message is to admit my stupidity for using the "Memphis Belle" to be build as the "Sally B".

I discovered it already a couple of weeks ago but was, sort of, ashamed to mention it here.

My enthusiasm of building the "Sally B" because of my Duxford visit and having the Revell "Memphis Belle" kit in stash did distract me from the differences both planes have.

The "Memphis Belle" is an F version without the chin turret and the "Sally B" is a G version, having this chin turret.

Hard to believe I missed these differences but I was mainly focussed on getting the correct decals, shame on me.

Currently I'm in doubt of still building an F version of the "Sally B", or build it as an offical "Memphis Belle" variant.

    Any thoughts from you guys?

Btw, the decals I ordered do include other B17's which participated in the movie, all F variants except Sally B.

Building the official Memphis Belle is a safe choice, my friend @johnb : might not be exactly the one you witnessed, but it will be correct as a model and definitely closely related to what you saw.
Any choice you make will be great, a nice model will nevertheless emerge.

BTW, "The Shamrock Special" is great looking too, my friend @johnb 🙂

@fiveten, thanks for your opinion, Spiros
I had basically the same thoughts, another B17G built as "Sally B" can always be added to the shelf later on.
The decal sheet I ordered will have the following options:

    • 'Mother & Country DF-S 25703 '
    • 'Windy City DF-M 22960'
    • 'Clooney Baby MJ-K 22656'
    • 'C-Cup DF-X 124299'
    • 'Gee Whiz DF-O 22360'
    • 'Baby Ruth DF-U 124292'
    • 'Sally B DF-Q 124232'
    • 'Memphis Belle DF-A 124485'

@ssgt @pb_legend @fiveten @johnb All day work was chin turret. It needs some sanding. There was some montage imperfections, because guns were too long. I nedd to cut off end of the gun. the problem was that the glazing of this turret is quite thick, I don't know how the producer predicted it and how the guy from the YT movie did it, where everything turned out to be like a magic wand. So the rear of the machine guns caught the glazing on the inside. But I guess it's ok now. It's time to adjust the nasal glazing and I can slowly move on to building the wings.

I started masking the glazing and the stairs were made. To my humble knowledge, what Eduard is proposing is simply incorrect. As for the viewer, in the original photos the nose itself has practically no ribs to hold the glazing. I used Montex mask for it, and elastic Tamiya masking tape. Rest of nose I will fill by liquid mask. What do You think about it?

I think you are right, Bernard @lis
From the pictures there is hardly any frame.

Ditto with our friend @johnb, my friend @lis : I see no frame.

Finally made a start on my Fortress as well.
Did a bit of cleaning on the bomb bay parts and glued the first parts.

@fiveten, @lis, my current thoughts are to go for the "Shamrock Special", provided within the box. I will use the recently ordered decals for another occasion.
