1964 by Martin Caidin. Martin tells the story of a group of men lead by Australian Greg Board and Brit John Crewdson to restore three B-17 bombers for the movie The War Lover. What more could you want? 20 year old war weary B-17's, engine fires, electrical gremlins, fog, brawls, drinking, Interpol, and did I say drinking?
It's a great book about hilarious adventure.

THIS is why this group is important- I’d never heard of this book until your post, Robert. Thanks, and it’s on the list (although at a dollar a page here on Amazon, I may have to do some digging.

Martin Caidin's books keep returning in re-print and this one has returned as well. It is quite an adventure story of finding and restoring the B-17's. Full of colorful writing and adventure, this is pure Martin Caidin. All of his non-fiction is a "must read," and read again.
