I have to admit I am not good at photographing my progress. My intention is to do so, but I keep plunging ahead with the build and forget to take a picture. Unfortunately, I do not have a place to put a little “studio” to photograph things, so when I do there is some setup involved.

Two new to me products were used. The first s Camouflage Masking Putty from Andy’s Hobby Headquarters. It comes in a 80 g (2.82 oz) tin.. It is nearly identical to Silly Putty. But it is much thinner in consistency. If you are using it to delineate camouflage boundaries, it should be okay. If you are using it to stuff wheel wells, it will drip and run, albeit very slowly. So, it is not set it and forget it. That being said, it is very easy to use, comes away from all those nooks and crannies in a wheel well leaving nothing behind and seals the area from any paint overspray. I like it and will use it again.

The second product is Mr. Color Super Metallic 2 Superfine Silver (SM 201). For this, I need to give a shout-out to Tom Cleaver (@tcinla) who has praised this product in several of his articles describing his builds, and that is how I found out about it. I have never used Mr. Color, and I was not aware of it. It is everything Tom raved about. It is easy to apply and looks as realistic as any product I have used (and there have been many) to get a natural metal finish. I will make sure I keep plenty of this paint in stock. I used Mr. Color Leveling Thinner, which was perfect (as always). I buy Mr. Color Leveling Thinner in the 400 ml bottle.

Paint applied, decals are going on and all that is left are the fiddly bits and I will be done.

Excellent progress, my friend @matthewfdyer! The Camouflage Masking Putty looks very nice, a very useful product. The same can be said for the Mr Hobby super metallic paint. As for the in-progress photos, they are more than sufficient, no in-progress gap is evident. Looking forward to your next installment!

Some really good progress, Matt @matthewfdyer
That camouflage putty looks very nice to work with, can it also be re-used once done?
Nice painting on the air brake interior as well.

Thanks, John (@johnb). Yes, it can be used again. I think it might last for years kept in the tin with no dirt or dust getting mixed it with it. Lacquer paints don't effect it, so I am sure that acrylics won't either.

Further proof that Super Metallics is "Da Bomb." This is going to look nice.

There's a cheap alternative to that putty, which I have used successfully for 50 years: damp toilet paper or kleenex stuffed in what you want to protect.

Your NMF looks really awesome, Matt (@matthewfdyer). I am pretty new to NMF, so I tried 3 different paints for the NMF on my F-86s. I bought some Super Metallics, but tried other stuff instead. Yours looks so good that I need to give it a try on my next shiny model. Great job.

I have often used Kleenex; however, I have had problems with it sometimes falling out of the space it is tucked into. I am admittedly likely to grab onto new products and give them a test drive.

Thanks, Tom (@tcinla). Super Metallic 2 coupled with Leveling Thinner (a/k/a Unicorn Tears) is a dream come true.

You must try Super Metallic 2, George (@gblair). It is so easy to apply and is not lifted or damaged by masking tape. I bet it would withstand duct tape, but why would anyone try that?

Hi Matt (@matthewfdyer): The Super Metallic sounds perfect. I can really be ham-fisted sometimes when it comes to masking. I had a couple of problems with the masking on my recent NMFs, so this could be perfect. I still use silly putty sometimes when I am masking curved camo. You can get something similar to Silly Putty on Amazon for just a few bucks.
